Hello..Leaving tomorrow on a cruise where I have a $200 shore excursion credit (it was a promo) but I'm not planning any shore excursions. Wondering if the unused credit converts to cabin credit if not used..or do I just lose it?

We just used ours for whatever we wanted to OB.  It just shows on your folio as OBC.  No problem.

And yours was originally earmarked for shore excursions? There was a later promo that did not have this restriction, just a cabin credit, mine was shore excursion specific. Will be great if I can use it for other things!

Yes, it was a $100 per person shore excursion credit promo.  There are several threads on this. You’d have to search the PCL threads.  Unless, they’ve made changes in the last few months.

Have a great cruise!

I found a thread on this for you.

Officially no.  However as with other forms of OBC the onboard Princess systems do not track how OBC is used effectively and as such do not prevent OBC from being used for things it is not supposed to be used for.

There was never anything mentioned that the OBC wasn't supposed to be used for. They only implied it was for meant for excursions.

No but other categories of OBC have supposedly been limited for years.  Such as not for gratuities, not for casino, etc.  Princess has never implemented any system that actually enforces those restrictions, even though they exist in policy.  As such as with other forms of OBC the onboard Princess systems do not track how OBC is used effectively and as such do not prevent OBC from being used for things it is not supposed to be used for.  In this case it is only supposed to be used for excursions (not implied but stated), but the system will not track and make sure that happens.

Instead it is all grouped together and just applied against the onboard spend (non-refundable first, then refundable).

Maybe I've just been blind to the restrictions for using the OBC.

I'll have to be more aware in the future.

Since this has already been answered I will only add that the only distinction I've ever encountered is that a "Shore Excursion Credit" CAN be used in Cruise Personalizer PRIOR to embarkation to book excursions but can't be use for anything else. Once onboard though it is applied to your folio and can then effectively be used for anything. 🙂

Just finished the 3 day from San Francisco to Vancouver.  Shore Excursion Credit was posted on my Journey Account at the start.  Daily Crew Appreciation, internet and money added to slots were deducted against it, so it's just a global credit.  You just can't "draw" from it.

We are also on a 3 day cruise out of Australia.  No ports to stop at but we all have $100 OBC for excursions.  Tips and wi-fi are prepaid so it should just roll over to our next cruises (doing b2bs)

Do you think the source matters?  My TA is giving us, among other things, $60 excursion credit.

I want to use my credit for an excursion.  LOL.

Does anyone know how to use the "Shore Excursion Credit" for an excursion before getting on the ship.  My personalizer asks for credit card or paypal information.  It does not let me use the "Shore Excursion Credit"

That's too bad. On all four of the cruises I've booked with credit that is specifically called Shore Excursion Credit when I go the the cruise personalizer and book an excursion it has let me book without a credit card if the total for the excursion was less than the credit I had.

Maybe try calling or chatting with support?

That's a good question. So far I've only used a Princess Vacation Planner, not a 3rd party TA. I hope someone else can chime in with an answer.

I don't even know why I got my credit.  I booked through Expedia ($99pp balcony for the 3 day) and we ended  up with $100 shore excursion credit when I looked on my Princess account.  I wasn' sure it was going to post until I opened my Journey Account on the day of the cruise where it showed the credit and -$100 balance.  Who it actually came from? Don't know (and don't care! LOL)!

Look at your Travel Summary to see if its refundable or nonrefundable. That's the only way to know for sure

Sometimes I get refundable from my CVP but strings attached to getting one. Like when I got 100 obc for my cruise 2 weeks ago because it took so long to refund $35 for missing Boston

I was able to use the shore excursion credit  ahead of time.  Iif I remember it was one of the last screens.  You might try computer and phone sometimes the apps work slightly differently.  I was able to use my excess Nonrefundable credit from my Expedia booking for the tips and restaurants as well as the excursion.

There was no "Officially no." The small print said it could be used for anything.

I tried using the OBC in advance of the cruise to pay for an excursion and could not do so.

Calling it an "Excursion Credit" is another dumb marketing move by JP.
