Luau excursion?

Hi all

We're doing the Hawaii cruise this year at Christmas, hitting Honolulu on Dec 28th.  As it's the only port we are there late, we were hoping to attend a Luau but don't see one listed on the excursions list yet.  Does anyone know if they typically have one?

Thanks in advance.

We attended the luau at Nutridge last week and loved it. It was very informative as well as enriching. Best of all, it was only 47 people and they picked us up from Ala Moana Center and took us back to port.

(we did not buy it from princess but it was 4-8 PM - plenty of time to get back to ship)

Princess usually sells Germaine's Lu'au in Kapolei.  Germaine's closes on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Lots of disappointed guests on a cruise to Hawaii when Princess canceled their excursion due to Germaine's being closed when we were ported in Honolulu.

See if Paradise Cove is available that day. You’ll need a rental car to get there but it is infinitely better than the others.

Paradise Cove is a good luau, but…if there is an accident, you will be stuck.

Other luau options:

Hale Koa (military)

Hilton Hawaiian Village (might only be Fridays)

Luau on Kauai (Smith’s ?)

Polynesian Cultural Center excursion

We plan on taking a Princess Luau excursion.

Here are the options Princess shows for Honolulu-

Polynesian Cultural Center

Germaime’s Luau

An Evening at the Polynesian Cultural Center

Ka Moana Luau

Any suggestion on one of these excursions?

Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC):

It's far, in the city of Laie.  The PCC lu'au food is not so great and you eat in a cemented picnic area.  The show makes up for it.  I think the PCC has the best hula show that showcases dances from all of the Polynesian islands.  The PCC complex is pretty interesting in itself with all it's exhibits, but it's all outdoors and you have to be willing to stay out in the heat.  Closed on Sundays for religious reasons.  I believe that you have to take the "An Evening at the PCC" to take advantage of the lu'au.

Germaine's:

More casual and fun.   Food is better than the PCC, but not by much.  Dining is out on the beach and you have the choice to sit on the sand (closer to stage) or on picnic tables.  The show is more fun, but the hula dancing is generic.  There is audience participation during the show.

We chose Nutridge (not a Princess offering) for our March cruise based on a recommendation from a native Hawaiian on these boards. We were not disappointed.. If you want a Vegas or Disney type production, it is not for you. This is more like a true luau you would experience as a guest of a friend or neighbor. But it is no means not spectacular. There was LOTS of entertainment from fire dancers to games for the guest to participate in. The food was incredible! With a maximum of 60 guests and over a dozen staff, the personal attention is over the top. The view at sunset can't be beat as you can see Pearl Harbor, Wiakiki Diamond Head and the ship. As a bonus, on our trip to the luau from Ala Moana shopping center our driver gave us tour of downtown Honolulu and a brief stop at Puu Ualakaka state park for photo ops and more great views. Also returned us directly to the ship. Defiantly a highlight of our trip.So glad we chose this and spent our OBC on something else, not the ship excursion.
