cruisers with past experience, please help me.

Do a title limited search for “burial” - that should bring up a few threads with details.

Q

What is Royal Caribbean’s Burial at Sea policy?

A

Per company policy, we allow the tossing of a biodegradable urn containing ash while at sea.

Ashes must be in an approved scattering or biodegradable urn, free of plastic or wire, and the entire urn must be tossed. A certificate proving the urn is biodegradable may also be required. Guest will need to provide the death certificate and cremation certificate. Upon boarding, contact the Front Desk to set up a time and place for this request.

All requests must be submitted to the following:

Email: gfotravelservices@rccl.com

@Eastern flygirl Just a quick FYI. Once you get things squared away with Royal; if you are flying, there is some paperwork for the airlines to enable you to fly with the cremains.

Good point. Here is a link to TSA.

I did a Burial at Sea on the Oasis in March with some of my wife's ashes. The staff couldn't have been nicer and very considerate.

I sent an email to Royal to get the process started and to get permission.

You need to send your email to, emergencytravelteam@rccl.com

I also went to Guest Services as soon as I got on the ship with all the paperwork needed so they could start the process. I had to wait until the Assistant Director of Guest Services came to the desk. Merci was very helpful and made copies of all the paperwork.

I had a couple of friends with me during the ceremony, but they didn't want the certificate. Also, one of my friends took video of the ceremony and asked permission to do so. I would suggest you make a list of items you may want done. Just like the link to the thread that molly361 posted I would ask if the staff will take a video if you want one and if there are family members attending make sure you let the staff know if they would like a certificate as well.

I didn't use all my wife's ashes for this. I hope to do the same thing on the west coast in October on a Princess cruise. After I have distributed all of my wife's ashes' I will still have her very close to me. I had a diamond created from some of her ashes that I had mounted to her favorite cross, that I wear all the time.
