Need a review of the "Small Group: Exclusive Tour of Italy's Amalfi Coast"

We are booked with another couple on the 5/18/24 9 night cruise on the Beyond. There is one excursion in Naples that we're interested in, the "Small Group: Exclusive Tour of Italy's Amalfi Coast" that is labeled as activity level "Strenuous". One member of our party has some mobility issues and would like to do this excursion but is worried about what part of this is strenuous. Is it just a lot of walking or are we talking about having to climb tons of steps. Any insight on this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Tried unsuccessfully to find a full description of this tour. Can you please post it here?

In general, from experience towns like Positano require navigating a lot of stairs so if your party member struggles with stairs and steps it will probably be a disappointing tour for them.

Here's what it says:

"There are few region's more breathtaking than the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Spanning 50 kilometers, Italy's Amalfi Coast epitomizes the grandiosity Mediterranean landscape. And our exclusive excursion offers the rare opportunity to explore Italy with loved ones by your side. Your private adventure begins at the port in Naples where you'll board a private charter for a scenic drive along the coast with your knowledgeable guide. Along the way, you'll catch a glimpse of Mount Vesuvius, the tallest of a row of volcanoes visible from the coast. After a brief respite in Positano, your journey continues onward to the fabled town of Sorrento. Sorrento served as the backdrop for numerous Mediterranean myths and legend, and you'll get the opportunity to explore the iconic, picturesque destinations. Our coastal trek concludes with a stop in the ancient city of Pompeii. As we clear the city's gates, you'll feel as if you've been transported back to 79 AD. Rustic and full of character, you'll marvel at the stunning architecture and warmth of the locals."

Use Google images to get photos of the various towns on the AC. Aside from the beach in Positano (pebble, not sand), nothing is flat and level. Everything is either on a slope or with stairs. Usually the latter. This tour is actually a cheat, since your only stop on the AC is Positano. Sorrento and Pompeii are on the Bay if Naples. The description is unclear as to whether you will visit the Pompeii Archeological site (fascinating, but with the roughest, most difficult cobblestones I've ever seen), or just in Pompeii town ( instantly forgettable).

I can understand why this would be termed strenuous. Anyone with mobility challenges would have a difficult time.

Thanks for posting the description. In addition to my initial thoughts, the other posters have added great information and make great points. Between Sorrento, Positano and the Pompei archeological site, only Sorrento is likely not to have mobility challenges as it is mostly flat with wide streets/passageways. As mentioned there are numerous stone stairs and steps in Positano as it is built entirely on a hillside on the coast. Other than the central marketplace in Pompei everything is uneven cobblestone pathways with parallel grooves in them for the wheels of carts. Even without mobility challenges, both of these locations are more strenuous than a walk down the a flat street.

Hope this is helpful. Best regards for a terrific cruise!

We did that tour last August on the Reflection, you visit the towns of Positano, Sorrento and Amalfi, we chose the one that did not stop in Pompeii as we had been there twice before. All of the towns on the Amalfi coast are built up steep inclines and this tour included a lot of walking down and up steep walkways and steps. My wife and I are very fit but it was so hot last August we found the walking to be strenuous at best.

If this is a private excursion for just the 4 of you and the walking gets to difficult for your friend then you could probably adjust the tour. Possibly shortening or omitting Pompei and taking more rest breaks.
However if this is a small group excursion it would be unfair to others who book this if the tour has to be shortened or changed to accommodate your friends limitations.

We have been done a similar tour of the Amalfi coast and Pompei and it was strenuous with the stairs, steep inclines and cobblestone.  I could not do that tour today as I have difficulty with steep inclines or more than 2 flights of stairs.
