We were on that cruise and never heard any mention of covid onboard by the captain or crew. I did see 2-3 tables per deck in front of doors and some people were coughing in public areas more near the end of the voyage but I wouldn’t consider that to be a indicative of a “lot” of cases. For him to speak of it over the PA system on the Hawaii voyage I’d say things must have changed two weeks later.

I’m curious where you heard that.

Talking to my room steward , he confirmed there were quite a few cases of Covid. We also do the indoor deck walk on each deck from aft to stern and counted  quite a few isolation tables on various decks. We were on Caribe port side and there were three in our section alone...The captain did not make any announcement.

That’s good to hear. Same thing here on day 31 of our 33-day B3B on the Celebrity Eclipse we’re currently crossing the Pacific on from Sydney to Vancouver by way of Honolulu. Just your normal “bronchial coughing” in various parts of the theater, dining rooms and other sitting areas. People periodically sneezing and blowing their noses because of “allergies”. It’s good to see people packing into the elevators again with no one wearing masks. In fact, I saw in one case a very polite gentleman hold the elevator door for more people to pack into it before he cleared his lungs with a solid “bronchial cough” and then get in.

Yup, it’s good to see cruising is getting back to normal. And more good news. No more testing requirements for cruising around Japan, as we will be cruising on the Diamond Princess in July for 17 days! Yay! 😂

Be careful being too positive.

Friends who were on Princess last year were put in a special isolation wing of the ship.  Are they still doing that or do you stay in your own cabin now?  They also were reimbursed for their days in isolation.  Is that still the case?

They usually give you a choice, if 1 is positive they can be moved to a different area/deck. Or, if you both choose to stay in your cabin, that’s okay too.

Here’s the link about Covid OB.  IDK if they have changed it in the last

month.

https://www.princess.com/plan/cruise-with-confidence/cruise-health/frequently-asked-questions/us-cruises/

What happens if I have COVID-19 on board?

Anyone reporting or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will be reviewed by the shipboard medical staff and tested.

Positive cases that do not require admission to the ship’s medical center, or medical disembarkation, will most likely be moved to a different stateroom for the duration of isolation.

If you, your family members, travelling companions or other close contacts are isolated or disembarked during the voyage, due to a positive test or being suspected of having COVID-19, you and they are entitled to a FCC for the unused portion of your cruise fare. For full details, see our Cancellation Policy.

Disembarked from Majestic on Saturday. Never saw any little tables in the hallways.

Let down my guard and didn't mask up in the elevators...tested positive on Wednesday, fifth day being home. Didn't fly. Friends that I travelled with also have one person with similar symptoms. Two out of five. This is my first COVID encounter. UGH.

Felt tired and achy, then the cough started and the fever...on Monday.

Hope it doesn't last too long! Wear those masks....couldn't hurt!

So sorry you are sick.  Me too. Tested positive on Tuesday night and reported it Wed. morning on board Majestic.  Quarantined, disembarked on Saturday (May 13)with special escort.  Was told there were only three  cases onboard!  (??)Dh was negative so allowed run of the ship ( not sure how that is a good thing)!! He tested positive Sat. night after disembarkment.  I made it through 3 years of Covid with no infection,  then boarded Majestic May 5 after a delayed, disorganized and horrendous 4 hour lineup.  I believe that was the culprit along with people not reporting illness while on board.  Masked with N95's the entire time except lounge and DR until quarantine. That was my final cruise.

(Majestic May 5-13). I was quarantined to our cabin when I phoned to report my positive test result.  My Plus program was discontinued and apparently I will receive a credit for missed days. To date,  I have nothing to back that up. ( including credit).  There was no special area in ship.  At disembarkation I spoke with one other woman ( of three who tested positive on ship) who told me she had been upgraded to a balcony for the duration.  The ship was full, I was not moved when I tested positive.  Inside cabin for the duration, although that was fine for all the sleeping. All room attendant cleaning etc. was discontinued.  A special long form room service menu was provided ( who could eat?) and meals arrived promptly on trays.  Clean linen was provided.  Customer services were very good with check up calls. Negative testing dh was permitted the run of the ship. We were the last passengers off the ship and were escorted through customs by a back door.  A special Covid cab was hailed on our behalf ( additional cleaning charges were applied).

Our experience on Ruby Princess May 7 - 17 was a little different.  Partner tested positive early on day 9 of a 10-day cruise.  Nurse came to room to check him out and test me (negative).  No little table was ever put in the hall.  We were able to order off MDR menu for our meals.  We were told he would receive FCC for the two missed days, but also have nothing to back that up.  Getting off ship was the worst part.  No one asked (or cared) what your flight time was.  We had to remain in our cabin until every other passenger was off the ship, then brought to dining room with all the other isolated passengers, and processed off from there.  Our luggage was in a different area still stacked on carts, so we had to manhandle it ourselves.  Then we were left on our own to find a cab.  The stress of worrying about missing our flight was not the greatest way to end our vacation.

I know it’s too late now, but always

get a copy of your medical record from medical before leaving the ship.  Covid report should be free. They should deliver it to your cabin.  Although,

your positive was at the end.  It’s so much more time consuming to get it after the cruise.

So your partner, knowing that he/she/it had test positive for CoVid, got on a plane full of passengers?  Great!!

You should have been on the Royal in September when there were over 200 of us isolated and moved to port side Dolphin deck. We took up the entire side of the deck. After everyone was off we were marched off as a group and then made to stand in a corridor for over 30 minutes before being loaded on buses to hotels (which we had to pay for) since Canada had a 10 day isolation law

@geezlouise2 Thank you for sharing your experience here. I hope you are feeling better and on the mend. I am still testing positive, ten days post cruise. Unlike you though, I did not experience any symptoms until several days after arriving home.

My experience is mostly like having the flu, with a cough. Tired. That about sums it up. In my case, not sure which day I picked up the virus, I washed my hands at every opportunity, but alas, gave up wearing my mask towards the end of the week-long cruise.

As a number of posters on these boards have reported, they are not interested in wearing masks, reporting, nor taking any extra precautions at this point. C'est la vie. All we can do is monitor our own behaviour.

Happy summer - where-ever you are, where-ever you go. May your next adventures be covid-free and filled with interesting sights and people.

Are you qualified to diagnose a bronchial cough? Just curious.

LOL!! When it comes to improving our odds to protect my DW and myself from getting sick with “whatever” on a cruise, you bet. I used to get bronchitis pretty much after each 7-day cruise we went on until we were on an Oceania cruise back in 2016 where the ship was in Code Red for norovirus for the last 10 days of a 12 day cruise.  That’s when I finally started following my DW’s lead and started washing my hands with soap and water each time we got back to the cabin, stayed out of public bathrooms, and avoided using the elevators. Amazingly, I never even caught a cold from that point on when on a cruise, and we cruise a lot!

Then came the pandemic. However, since cruising started back up, we have cruised 200+ days with Celebrity, Princess and NCL, most recently on a 33-day cruise on the Celebrity Eclipse. It’s fascinating how cold symptoms start appearing around day 5 or 6 on a ship, then again around day 11 or 12.  Since we’re usually on a cruise now for 3-5 weeks at a time, I pay close attention to that kind of stuff.

But to be honest, the “hoarse cough” could be from COVID, bronchitis, allergies, a chronic cough, etc. I really don’t care. But what I have noticed on this last cruise, most everyone is back in pre-pandemic mode, with pretty much no one wearing a mask, the sharing tables in the MDR are full, they pack into elevators, people coughing in the theater sitting behind other people had no concern for those folks sitting in front of them, and pretty much the folks in the front don’t care either as they’re not moving either. Like I said, prepandemic mode.

In fact, there were two instances that really caught my eye on this past cruise. First, there was an older gentleman with a “hoarse cough” holding the elevator door open while around 8 people packed into the elevator. Then he got in. The other time was when a lady asked if the seat next to us was taken. We said no. She then proceeded to sit down with a face mask under her chin (even though she knew she wasn’t feeling good), blew her nose and then coughed. When we looked over at her again a little more closely, her face was red, her eyes were watery, and she definitely looked like she was not feeling well. We immediately got up, as she had no plans to move. Later on we looked over where she was still sitting, and someone was sitting in our old seat next to her.

Yes, for the purpose of protecting ourselves from folks with any type of “bronchial-like” cough, blowing their nose, and/or otherwise not looking healthy, we take that seriously since one of our biggest goals while on a cruise, besides having a great time, is not getting sick. We realize stuff can happened, but to just ignore it and assume all is good just isn’t in my DNA anymore. Like I said we cruise a lot! 😁

Many thanks for your lovely response. Hope you're healthy soon. I tested negative a few days after returning home and have slight "cold symptoms" remaining.  Dh has a similar case,  but is still testing positive.  We hand washed and masked, etc. but it still wasn't enough. For people with underlying health issues,  please be cautious, it can still find you.

@Ken the cruiser … I completely agree with you!

we were recently on a Hawaii cruise and by the end of the cruise, people were coughing and sneezing everywhere.  While I didn’t contact CoVid, I got a nasty respiratory infection that hung on until the doctor prescribed a Z-PAC for me.  It must have had a bacterial component to it as that did the trick.  But, it has made me think twice about longer cruises as you are so right, by day 11, it seems like everyone was coughing while hanging out in the public venues.
I can’t believe people would want to leave their cabin while sick, knowing they might compromise the health of others.  It irks me to no end but, I always try to take the stairs whenever possible, don’t share tables with others in the dining room, wash wash wash my hands constantly, etc.

It doesn’t always keep me healthy but I try everything possible to avoid those infections.

This just in, there's covid on that cruise ship, that airplane, that train, that tour bus, that grocery store, that mall, that theater, that restaurant, etc etc., as well as the flu, the noro, the common cold, the streptococcus, the mersa, and the monkey pox.

Discuss.

We both wore masks on a January cruise and my husband got it the last night and I didn’t get it. For us it was just cold like - no reason to be tested anymore since they don’t test people for other illnesses that are worse. High risk people probably shouldn’t cruise. We have 4 vaccines in us plus both have had it. There is no reason to quarantine people and I won’t go on any ship that requires one. People who are coughing and sneezing should have to wear one in public areas regardless of what the illness is. It’s just respectful.

Thats the world we are in, no one is worried anymore, we did out bit for nearly 3 years. If you are worried about Covid don't get on a ship with 3000 people

Reasonable enough, but if people refuse to quarantine when they are  ill,  they will

continue to infect innocent bystanders.  I have had my share of noro and “ship’s kennel cough” on past voyages as well.  After 20+ cruises,  I am done.  Bon voyage to you!
