Boston Sea Port

We are booked on a RC cruise out of Boston this October.  We will be flying in a day early, to see a bit of the Boston area before embarking on our cruise.

We have never been to Boston.  Any suggestions for a hotel?  Or at least an area that would be appropriate?  We will not have a car and will be dependent on Uber.

We have lots of Hilton Honor Points, so a Hilton would be nice but not necessary.

Thanks

What's your budget? Boston has a considerable breadth of options from budget to 5 star and a lot in between.

Hilton does have options but not the greatest options for points redemption. The Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall is the best one they have for exploration of the city. The Hilton Back Bay is a bit more isolated but doable.

My personal favorite is the Fairmont Copley Plaza-- beautiful grand dame hotel in a great location and solid 4 star option. On the top end the new renovation they just did on the Four Seasons next to Boston Common is stunning. A decent budget friendly hotel in a good location is the Park Plaza Hotel.

First question, what dates in October. Very important. Between college parent weekends and Head of the Charles, it can be pretty busy. If you happen to need a hotel during Head of the Charles, which this year is October 20-22, it might actually be too late to find something.

Yikes!   We will be there the weekend of Oct 7th.

OK, Oct 7 isn't terrible. In the seaport, right by the port, there is a combo Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites building. You could then take mass transit to get into town. If you want to play tourist, I'd probably stick with going in town. As previously mentioned, the Back Bay area isn't bad. As long as you are near a T stop, you should be able to get where you want to go.

That Seaport hotel is GREAT for the cruise boarding, but isn't near any attractions or even really near many restaurants.  Downtown Hilton is best located.  The Canopy is new and also well located.  Onyx is near Boston Garden and the Italian North End.  Doubletree is near the theater district

Any other Hilton with "Boston" in the name isn't going to be walkable to anything or is in decidely non-tourist areas.  This includes the airport location, the Hampton Inn in Cambridge (ok, a longish walk), and definitely not the Crosstown or South Bay locations

Any opinions on the Marriott Renaissance Boston waterfront hotel?

Its fine-- its a fairly boring corporate hotel but checks all the boxes. It's in the Seaport District-- convenient for a cruise but not super convenient for touring Boston itself.

This is going to depend on how you plan to use it-- for a nice spot to spend the night before/after a cruise its a good choice. If you plan on touring Boston at all, given the Renaissance charges $400-500 a night, you can find much more interesting accommodation in the city proper that will put you in walking distance to the sights.

We will fly in the day before our cruise. Any recommendations that are less expensive but still within walking distance to some of the sights? We will arrive in the afternoon so we won't have a lot of time for sightseeing in Boston.

What is your date, how many beds do you need, and what is your budget?

We will fly in on 8/29 for one night and we need one room for 2 adults. Are there any hotels under $300 including taxes and fees and have restaurants within walking distance?.

I did a quick check on Google Maps and quite a few options showed up.  I don't trust their pricing, but you might want to check Kayak or similar or go right to the hotel sites and look at:

Hyatt Regency on Lafayette Place

Park Plaza in Copley Square

Omni Parker House right on the Freedom Trail (very historic)

Harborside Inn on the waterfront

We are looking for the same thing in October.  We finally settled on Club Quarters Hotel Faneuil Hall,  Location looks ok, price was around 400.00, yuck!  But we choose the higher price with the free cancelation,  We could not find anything cheaper using hotels.com and other such sights, for that area.   We have free cancelation, so we will keep looking.

The Omni Parker House is about as classic as you can get.  It is in the middle of everything and has a huge history…Charles Dickens stayed there.  It is the home of Boston Cream Pie and Parker House Rolls!  Just an Uber or taxi away from Black Falcon cruise terminal.

That is Columbus Day weekend.  Good news, the No. End will have all kinds of stuff going on, bad news hotels will be expensive.  They always are in October.  https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/bossyhw-homewood-suites-boston-seaport-district/  is a Hilton very close to the terminal.  The Seaport is booming right now.  TONS of wonderful restaurants and shopping.  Lots of stuff to do.  Walking distance (within 2 miles) of Chinatown, North End, Castle Island, Greenway, Quincy Market just to name a few.  Walk the HarborWalk it is lovely.

Coming from Logan looks like it's going to be 15 minutes, that is reserved for between 1-4AM.  I live in the Seaport and average about 30-40 minutes from Logan.  Sometimes more, sometimes less you just never know.  Also at Logan note that ride shares can only pick up in Central Parking.  It's not complicated, but it's a good amount of walking and up and down levels. Cabs wait right outside of arrivals/baggage claim, so may be a better choice depending on your needs.  Hope you enjoy Boston and your cruise.
