Are ncl prices out of control?

Recommended Posts

It's simple basic market economics of supply and demand.  Nothing whatsoever to do with covid losses.  Travel is a competitive business, there are many options out there who cater to people who are looking for the best deal, it's justa seller's market the past few years.  Lots of industries have "covid losses" but they can't just magically "make them up" by charging more if there aren't clients willing to pay it and their competition isn't raising prices as well.
And as to the "inflation" everywhere you can thank governments for that, it's one thing I won't blame on NCL.

My best friend and I were looking at cruises for this September (started looking in April) but the prices were well over what we were willing to pay.  We live several states away and have both had a really bad past 9 months (understatement for sure).  We had given up the idea of cruising - on any line.  But she was looking and found one that we wanted to do for a reasonable price, but we had to wait until after final payment for the prices to drop - not my favorite way/time to book a cruise, especially when flying is involved.  But we booked anyway.  Definitely not at pre-covid prices, but we made peace with it and off we will go!

Is this the one?  Price per person, $679 in Oceanview.  $1687 after FAS gratuities but before taxes and fees?  Are you certain that yours was $1500 PER PERSON?

7-DAY ON NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY
Caribbean: Harvest Caye, Cozumel & RoatanfromNew Orleans, Louisiana
1. NUMBER OF GUESTS & DATES

UK OV £1709($2174) include FAS and taxes (not daily grats)

A lot of people will miss the change to per cabin.

Seeing plenty of late deal in the UK on Europe/Med  cruises

Don't forget there are the hidden discounts many have 10% 20% coupons on their accounts and the airfare offer(1free/credits) is just another hidden discount.

On Dawn with free at sea and taxes  at $65pppd with $10pppd OBC.

Yes, I had a 10% on my account, the price I indicated in my post was before the discount was applied.

That's the point the prices shown are not the prices people are paying.

There were 50% vouchers for Alaska earlier this year.

The hidden discounts are a way to try to fool people prices have gone up.

UK £250pp air fare credits covers a lot of flight options in Europe.

Recently UK have a 50% FAS offer and have also been doing $200OBC(not at the same time)

Last quarter results the interest  was $30 per passenger day.

That's $30 that is not going to your cruise experience.

The focus is on cutting costs and cruise experience.

if you want to get people paying more improve the experience.

When I looked last night I seen a cruise up the west side of Africa on the Dawn that was almost 12 grand for an inside cabin. There are cruises out of Vancouver that are going for $299. The difference is one cruise is selling and one is not. That is called capitalism. If the government were to regulate cruise prices it would be called socialism.

a 100% occupancy rate

If I am not mistaken, the lines base occupancy on 2 people per cabin, not full cabin occupancy. I am guessing a lot of ships are sailing now at 100+% figuring those 3rd and 4th passengers in some cabins. I hope we will one day see a return to better pricing for cruises, but with the cost of fuel, wages, food, and other items rising, I would bet we just will have to accept the higher costs as the new normal.

Yeah...there are some really good deals out there on NCL.  I just booked an 11 day France, Spain, Italy cruise out of Marseille for October on the Epic.  I'm right at $4,500 for a 2 BR Haven Suite with FAS.  That's for the cabin, NOT per person.  I upgraded from a Haven Spa Cabin which was about $4,350 for the cabin.  Same cruise was $2,500 for a standard balcony with FAS.

Those are great fares.

We are also booked on a PC cruise in Dec.  I checked yesterday and the rate we got months ago is still nearly the same, but few rooms left.

Just checked the CCL from NOLA on a 14 day partial, CALL for all categories other than interior.  One interior left.  Total price over $8,000 !!

Checked Princess for a 14 day complete transit. (Ft Lauderdale to LA) Comparable room is over $2,000 more, using Princess Plus, with the small print extra $471 required for port fees.

So, we don't think NCL prices are going crazy high.

I agree.  Prices are up from where they were pre COVID but I have found them to be competitive and most of the time are coming in cheaper than Royal.  Once you factor in having to add the drink package and dining to the Royal fare, it’s an even better deal.

And those of us who do not drink are helping pay for all those cheap booze packages on NCL.

Prices are not out of control.  Perhaps in The Haven they are a bit high, but the regular fares match with other mainstream lines we've looked into for the same itinerary.  In fact, NCL was cheaper than Princess, RCL, Carnival and Celebrity for our last jaunt to Alaska.

Yes. Carnival have said recently that they’re running at 107% currently
