Lighthouses Seen from Ship

I saw a post that recommended being up to see a lighthouse as the ship comes into port. Unfortunately, I did not note the port for which it was recommended. Our ports are Boston, Portland, St. John and Halifax. Which one or ones would provide us a view of a lighthouse, one worth losing sleep over? 😄

You’ll see a lighthouse right across from where your ship

docks in Halifax. It’s on George’s Island. There may be several others further out the Harbour . However to see the most iconic lighthouse in Canada you’ll have to take a tour to Peggy’s Cove.

Our private tour with Halifax Titanic Historical Tours with Paul McNeil took us to an old lighthouse just a bit of a hike to get to it. It certainly wasn't the tourist trap of Peggy's Cove.

You'll see a lot of light houses going into Portland and leaving. You can check with the purser's office what time you will be passing them. I prefer taking pictures in the morning when is slowing down as opposed to evening when it is speeding up.

Boston Light, the oldest manned Lighthouse in the US, is visible entering Boston Harbor.  Probably 45-60 minutes prior to docking

Sailing into Portland, you’ll see the Portland Head Light and some smaller lighthouses. We did get up for that. It was pretty foggy out. In any event, if you enjoy lighthouses (as we do), we found it worthwhile to see the Portland Head Light from land.

You’ll see several lighthouses as you come into Portland.  As you come past Cape Elizabeth you’ll see the twin lights, which are hard to see as they are a little inland.  Then you’ll see Portland Head Light just a littler further up, don’t miss Ram Island Light which will be on the other side of the channel.  And then you pass Spring Point Light and Bug Light before you dock in Portland.
