TayanaLorna Posted January 17 #52 Share Posted January 17 We had a bump out room once. Only problem was rolling suitcase got stuck there if we weren't careful and it was harder to slide suitcase under the bed from the foot of the bed. Not things we do too often. florafun Posted January 21 Author #54 Share Posted January 21 I personally checked out the DV2's on deck 5 in the middle of the ship and most DO have the bump out (or pilaster). Below is the list of cabins WITH a pilaster: 5050 5051 5052 5053 5054 5055 5056 5057 5058 5059 5060 5061 5062 5063 5064 5065 5066 5067 5068 5069 5070 5071 5072 5073 5074 5075 5076 5077 5078 5079 5080 5081 I'm pretty sure that these four DV2 cabins on deck 5 in the middle of the ship DO NOT have the pilaster: 5046 5047 5048 5049 My list for deck 4 is not as extensive and comes from other cruiser's input. Here are the DV4/5 cabins WITH a pilaster: 4039 4041 4042 4058 4061 4069 4070 4072 4080 4081 4082 4083 4084 4085 4095 Deck 4 cabins WITHOUT the pilaster: 4003 4028 4029 4030 4037 4059 4089 4093 4096 4097 4098 4099 4103 4104 4110 4111 4118 4037 Please feel free to add to the list. As I said in my original post, my husband's walker will not slide past the pilaster without folding it up whereas in the cabin without the pilaster he can push it right into the room which makes it a lot easier and safer. 2

Thank you for the list. Can anyone verify which rooms on the 6th floor have bumpouts? Specifically 6029 and 6035 ?? I wonder if anyone has a complete list at all. One of the things we found with a bumpout is that the sound insulation might not be so good as it is next to the back to back TV's. Our neighbor's TV is so loud in our room we can't even sleep - never had that problem in a non-bumpout room.

kag3120 Posted February 27 #59 Share Posted February 27 I can’t comment on 6029 or 6035 but 6027 definitely has the pilaster. In that room now on Orion.

I did a brief walk through hallways this morning while on Saturn and they were cleaning rooms. It would appear that ALL the DV rooms have pilasters bump outs - at least those between the two sets of elevators. Interesting. Never really noticed it before.

deec Posted June 9 #65 Share Posted June 9 A loud TV from next door would be bad...if it got late I might call on the phone...given so many hard of hearing folks in the Viking demographics it is too bad Viking doesn't offer cordless headphones for late night TV viewing.

If only the TV's were blue tooth ready!! We are afraid to watch a movie or the Star Theatre show on the room TV. We were so embarrassed to get a knock on our stateroom door one night at 8:30 by a staff member telling us our neighbor complained about TV noise. We had the volume at 15-16 maybe but it could have been set at 28. We do have some hearing loss but i can still tell you each bird species i hear on spring mornings. We didn't think it was that loud and it wasn't that late. But the staff member confirmed our TV could be heard in the next door stateroom. Now we watch the port talks the next morning when everyone is up and we are all getting ready for excursions.

There is a phone app called Hear Boost that allows you to use your phone to amplify sound. If you have wireless headphones /ear buds you can place your phone near the tv (foot of the bed?) and use it as a listening device.

We have no hearing problems, but could barely hear the movies on TV, when set at maximun volume. From what I have read, the TV volume is preset.

Seems might be a great option in a cabin so as not to have to crank up the volume.

Could be they set a limit after a certain hour. On the Octantis, the volume worked just fine, no limiting. We’ll be on the Venus in a few weeks. I’m curious if the newer ships have the volume limited.

I downloaded the app and tried it at home with my TV set to very low volume. It does boost the volume but I also get a shussing background. It could be the ambient sound at my house as we live near 2 rivers with waterfalls which have a constant background "white noise". Have you used the app in a quiet environment? Thinking it just might work in the staterooms because they are very quiet. Edited June 11 by TayanaLorna

You could, for instance use AirPods or some Bluetooth headphones and place your iPhone near the TV.
