St. Thomas vs. Grand Turk

Much more to do and better shopping in St Thomas. It is perhaps the most popular Caribbean cruise destination. Well regulated and plentiful taxis. Loads of excursions including some to nearby islands.

Grand Turk is less busy with fewer excursions. However, it offers nice beaches as one walks off the pier and has arguable the best offshore SCUBA and snorkeling in the Caribbean. Certainly better snorkeling than St Thomas.

Taken the ferry at Redhook to Cruz Bay St. John many times. I highly recommend it, this is your first trip to St. Thomas, timing is key.

Find out how many ships are porting on St. Thomas the day you are there, 4 or more ships on St. Thomas get off the island and take the ferry over to St. John. Hop another taxi to Trunk Bay and forget about it.

Take the ferry back over to Redhook 2 hours before your ship leaves. 2 hours is plenty of time to get back to Havensight or Crown Bay even with traffic.

4 or more ships in port on St. Thomas it's called a nightmare. I call it Trunk Bay. Have fun.
