latebuyer Posted July 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2023 I’ve now found a cruise that goes to san juan and puerta plata, the only difference is one goes to grand turk and one goes to st. Thomas. Any comments on the difference between the 2?
TTEllis Posted July 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2023 St. Thomas nothing but fun and relaxation. Grand Turk sounds like something my grandma used to make for Thanksgiving dinner.
latebuyer Posted July 14, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted July 14, 2023 It seems like from what i read some people like you access the beach on grand turk right from the cruise ship. But st. Thomas is supposed to be more scenic. Any other comment appreciated.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 14, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Much more to do in St Thomas. But it will cost you$$. If you want a low cost beach day then GT fits you.
Rare broberts Posted July 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Much more to do and better shopping in St Thomas. It is perhaps the most popular Caribbean cruise destination. Well regulated and plentiful taxis. Loads of excursions including some to nearby islands. Grand Turk is less busy with fewer excursions. However, it offers nice beaches as one walks off the pier and has arguable the best offshore SCUBA and snorkeling in the Caribbean. Certainly better snorkeling than St Thomas. TTEllis Posted July 15, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2023 Taken the ferry at Redhook to Cruz Bay St. John many times. I highly recommend it, this is your first trip to St. Thomas, timing is key. Find out how many ships are porting on St. Thomas the day you are there, 4 or more ships on St. Thomas get off the island and take the ferry over to St. John. Hop another taxi to Trunk Bay and forget about it. Take the ferry back over to Redhook 2 hours before your ship leaves. 2 hours is plenty of time to get back to Havensight or Crown Bay even with traffic. 4 or more ships in port on St. Thomas it's called a nightmare. I call it Trunk Bay. Have fun.
