latebuyer Posted July 18, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2023 I’m thinking of going on the norwegian bliss in march to mazatlan, puerta vallarta, cabo sans lucas and ensenada. I’m wondering how rough the sea would be? I though i recalled before there was one rough spot going to mexico. I’m not sure if march is rougher then other months or is even a good time to go. CruiserBruce Posted July 18, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2023 Seas can be rough any time, anywhere. You should be prepared every time you board a ship. The size of the ship doesn't really matter, it's the design. It is frequently discussed here that northbound back to California from Cabo can be rougher because you are going against the prevailing currents in the area.
pppiglet Posted July 18, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2023 We've never had rough seas going to Mexico. We've gone in the months of November to beginning of July. Maybe we've just been lucky. I do know that I wouldn't book end of July through October as that is hurricane season for the area. Lots of storms pop up in those ports.
Urban trekker Posted July 18, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2023 I am also taking the Bliss to those ports in March. Sailing the week of March 24, 2024.
latebuyer Posted July 18, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted July 18, 2023 That’s great! I haven’t booked yet. Thanks cruiser bruce. Sounds like it hopefully won’t be rough the whole time.
Mike45LC Posted July 18, 2023 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2023 I have not found rough seas on this route. I usually sail it late October through late May. June through early Sept, too many rugrats on the ship and Mex is too hot!
julsngraham Posted July 19, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 19, 2023 We did this tour in April and the two sea days coming back were awful - but if you have meds you might be ok
MSN-Travelers Posted August 5, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2023 (edited) It is rare for any rough sea issues going south to Mexico. There is a major ocean current running south from Alaska to a point roughly half way down Baja where it turns west. There have been reports that ships encounter rough "hobby horse" conditions when northbound in the current and the wind is also out of the north. This can occur at any time of the year and seems to be driven by a wind out of the north when in the current. Enjoy! pinto18 Posted August 5, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 5, 2023 Usually the last sea day is a bit "rougher" ..most of the other days you can barely feel the ship moving
Theosprey247 Posted August 6, 2023 #10 Share Posted August 6, 2023 Like others have said the return trip can be rough.
lovevacadays Posted September 20, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 20, 2023 I’ve never had rough seas. I will say that the last sea day back to the port can be windy. Not always, but it has happened to us a few time no matter what month. I have done 10 cruises to Mexico.
