Twitter Is Now X

Now that Twitter has been changed to "X", I wonder if Celebrity Cruises (or the parent company) will have a problem with the change, since "X" has been a Celebrity trademark(?) for a long time and "X" is intrinsic to the brand.

It is not a problem.  They are in different industries.

Actually Elon has had ties to that domain name dating back to 1999 wth X.com--the online bank that he co-founded that eventually became PayPal.  He bought the domain name back from PayPal six years ago.

Same. I can't stand Twitter, Musk et al and now everytime I see a ship or any marketing from Celebrity (in particular their small icon used in browser tabs) I can't help but see Twitter. I get there are limited things you can do with an X but they could have made it a bit less similar if they'd tried 😕

There isn't just one trademark and it's not wholly owned by one person or entity. It's segmented in to goods and services among other things. Celebrity has two pertaining to the "X". One is the letter X and one is the X shape the exhaust funnel makes on E class ships. The SM on the "X" above is a service mark, not a trademark as is it unregistered but Celebrity is claiming it. For instance if the new Explora Journeys cruise line started using an X, that would be a pretty clean case. However since Twitter is an entirely different product they would have to prove deliberate confusion to the consumer to have a case. Of course Celebrity can try if they want but ultimately no one has definite 'ownership' of the letter X. They would have to argue that people would get confused if they were doing business with Twitter or Celebrity. That may be a tough sell.

That might not be a bad idea considering the number of “Twits” they have running the place given their recent practice of allowing vaping in casinos on a couple of ships on a trial basis that has some people saying it is virtually a done deal.

Xfinity also uses the X logo.  I'd think they might have a case with Twitter, or more likely than Celebrity.
