I am on the Seaside 9/17/23 in Yacht Club and my son was also going on the cruise but for medical reasons is going to need to cancel.  I have not traveled solo in a long time, and I was wondering if there are any solo meet ups.  I would enjoy meeting some fellow travelers to join over a drink or in the casino.

Not sure about the Seaside, but on the Meraviglia in April, there were solo meet ups everyday in the Brass Anchor.

I’m on that cruise, sailing solo, but not YC.  Also on the previous cruise.  Booked Fantastica inside gty, was assigned balconies, and won upgrade bids to Aurea balcony both legs.  Not the same cabin, though.  Four doors apart.  I can deal with it, though.  I’m a little old lady, so not up to much drinking but I do like to chat.  EM

I’m not a joiner on FB.  EM

It's a shame people don't join the groups on FB, they are a great way to meet others on the sailing and get involved with activities like meets and greets, slot pulls and gift exchanges. My FB sailing group has over 500 people in it and have a few events planned,

Joining the groups on FB would mean joining FB and some of us prefer not to sell our souls to the Devil.

Sometimes I forget people DON'T actually have FB. A few years back it was at the point we just assumed everyone had it.

Hey PDXer2

I think I can tell from the way you titled this thread that you are not looking forward to sailing solo, and that title has been bumming me out, as someone who does often sail by myself.

I'm here to tell you that I absolutely love everything about it, from not having to share my cabin and space and the temperature controls, tv on/off and curtains opened/closed to doing my own thing whenever I want.  I can be as social as I want to.  It's easy to meet other cruisers as we all have at least one thing in common. We like cruising. Do try the solo meetings, but, if they're not well attended on your sailing or if you've reached out already on a quiet roll call, don't fret.

And don't discount that you might make friends with couples, too.  I often try to start the ball rolling on my roll calls by asking if anyone would like to meet up at one of the specialty restaurants once or twice depending on the length of the cruise.  I usually get a mix of couples and solos to attend.  I have made lifelong friends whilst cruising solo. Highly recommend it and it's not something to feel unfortunate about!  I realize you're disappointed that your son can't go and probably worried over his medical reasons, but, you're going on a cruise so that's a big plus!

Okay, pep talk over.  Enjoy.

Husband and I are going on that cruise with two other singles (staying together) first time on this cruise line but hoping for a fun time. We have not decided yet on whether or not to bid on the upgrade, already have a balcony room

Steeler Nation at Sea, thanks for the thoughts and you picked up my concerns. I have gone ahead and scheduled some activities (and, hopefully, will meet some folks) and will give the solo meet up a try. I do look forward to being in charge but also enjoy the company of others.
