Cobh (Cork) Ireland question

We are booked on Celebrity Silhouette for transatlantic cruise in April.  We also booked the next leg to Norway as B2B with transatlantic.  We would love to be able to get off the ship in Amsterdam to take a tour to Keukenhof Gardens to see the tulip fields.  Does anyone know if that is possible since we will have to disembark and go through customs, and then re-board for 2nd leg?  The last B2B we did in Caribbean, Celebrity had all passengers wait until everyone else was off the ship, then walked us through customer and reboarded us together.  Do they do the same in Amsterdam?

Was your turnaround port in the USA?

 

Ireland is  a fair distance from Amsterdam

 

Some European ports  may have this but  in Amsterdam there was no customs to go through when disembarking 

We walked off  picked up our bags  got  a cab to the airport 

 

We have  done turnarounds in Denmark  we could stay onboard or go ashore  no one checked  us

We've done several transatlantic round trips.

As an 'in transit' passenger there were no customs / immigration formalities - likely due to passport screening [UK Border Force] during the eastbound crossing to Southampton.

The only exception was in LeHavre in 2017 - the overworked French port official needed to stamp passports before and after shore excursions. Passports were not checked on our 2019 visit.

Passports were not checked in Hamburg.

At all the ports (Southampton, LeHavre, Hamburg) where there was a mix of disembarking, embarking and in transit passengers - presenting the ship's card and saying you were 'in transit' allowed you to bypass terminal lines. (still needed to go through security)

You should join your roll call , there are probably other people also heading to Keukenhof for the day

So, in Amsterdam, we can disembark any time that morning?

When we have  been there it was just walk off  when you are ready

The cruise line will give you instructions if you are continuing on

How do they handle collecting the first leg card and issuing the new one for leg 2?

I have joined the roll call for both legs of our B2B, just trying to figure out the turnaround day process in Amsterdam.

Have you ask on the Celebrity forum 
Each cruise line will be different and each port can be different

If you are back to back, and in-transit between cruise segments on the same ship - you are not disembarking. All your stuff stays unpacked in your room [assuming you have the same room for the next segment].

Amsterdam is a big city. Are the tulip fields close? 

 

If not there are a million things to see and do in Amsterdam. 

 

Also cobh is a 2 hour flight from Amsterdam and you would want to check the frequency of flights. Shannon is hours away from cobh, as is Dublin.

We did B2B through Amsterdam - we collected an In Transit pass from the officer who was handling the B2B group (met in a specific place).  We were only warned we could not reboard until general boarding started (around 11am).  Once you are back you actually go around the general boarding line to the front of the line.  The port was still right near the train station so you can easily explore farther afield than Amsterdam though we always fill our time there.  The tulips should be lovely in April though very crowded so get tickets before you go.  I even found a lovely farmers market where we tasted cheese and bought a bouquet of local flowers to take back with us.

Yes , Keukenhof can be done as a day trip from Amsterdam, but it does take time.  We have done it on our own by doing a Train/bus combination or simply booking a tour that would be all bus.  Another option is to simply rent a car and drive yourself (about an hour each way).

 

When we have done back to backs on Celebrity, they issued a new cruise card (sometimes the prior day and other times on the morning of the new leg).  Other cruise lines often just issue a single cruise card for the entire voyage but we are not sure if X has adopted this model.
