Leaving a cruise before the final port

Recommended Posts

Hi

has anybody got information regarding leaving a cruise early.

RC have a short cruise from Sydney to Adelaide and back to Sydney.   We are from Melbourne and since this cruise stops for two days in Melbourne we would like to leave the cruise in Melbourne and not get to Sydney and then fly home.

we expect to pay the full price and that’s ok with us.

getting info on this is proving difficult.

I have not booked as it depends if I can leave the cruise in Melbourne.

I sent an email to RC and received a note that they have forwarded my request to the Sales department.  No answer so far.

prior to Covid you could complete a form on this request.  That page has disappeared.

since this cruise is only in Australian waters I cannot see that there would be border problems.

any help would be appreciated.

Apparently the email contact at RC is emergencytravelteam@rccl.com.

Unfortunately that page is no longer available!    I think it was probably taken down during Covid and no other page has replaced it.

We have disembarked on an earlier port before the final port on cruises a couple of time previously.

It was not an issue.

We just had our TA notify the cruise line which port we wanted to disembark from, when he booked it.

If your not using a TA, ring the Cruise Line direct to make your booking.

Thanks for that info.   I will ring RC in Oz and see if they can assist.

Q

Can I request to embark the ship at a different port of call or leave the ship earlier during my cruise?

A

Guests can request to embark or disembark at a port of call other than the scheduled embarkation/disembarkation port.  This is referred to as “down lining” and is on a request basis only, subject to consideration and approval by Royal Caribbean.  Although down lining is offered, it is highly discouraged due to implications resulting from unscheduled itinerary changes and weather/sea conditions, which may result in missing your port of embarkation/debarkation. Royal Caribbean cannot accept any liability in respect to these circumstances, which are out of our control.

Guests are not charged for submitting a downline request. Additionally, no fee is charged for an approved down lining request. Guests are not entitled to any discount of the cruise fare as a result of not completing the full cruise. Please note that changes in the global climate or ship's itinerary may cause prior approval to be rescinded.

It is the guest’s responsibility to ensure all documentation is correct and valid and the necessary visas obtained to meet the downline request.  Incorrect documentation can possibly result in denied entry into the requested countries or boarding of the vessel.

The request must include the below details to request an exception for pre-planned down lining:

  • Ship

  • Sail date

  • Booking number and guest name requesting the downline

  • Sailing port of embarkation

  • Request to embark or debark (indicate which and the date)

  • Reason for the request

  • Screenshot of the ship’s itinerary

Request should be sent to: emergencytravelteam@rccl.com

I'm not sure what you mean, the link works for me.

I redid the link and realise that it was an email address not a page.   I will take Ozwoody’s advice and ring RC .   Although I would like some written confirmation before I book.

thanks for all the suggestions.

CC is always the best place to get advice.

I was always under the impression RC won’t do it  but last season on a N.Z Cruise about 100 people disembarked in Wellington just before the leg back to Sydney.
Apparently they were trying out a world tour test , L.A -Sydney-Singapore- Europe-U.S

So it does happen and as said immigration wouldn’t be involved.

Try this number and see if you can get some sense,02-99375400

Thanks Chiliburn for the phone number.   I have sent off the request to the

email address and at least have had an acknowledgement .   I will wait a few days to see what they say!

I also rang RC sales but they said as it is a November cruise I would have to book and pay the full amount up front.   Then wait 10 days to see if the request is accepted. No way.

we have got lots of cruises booked but sitting in Melbourne in this horrible weather, having to think of what to cook for dinner and clean the house tomorrow made me think we need a cruise. Ha ha

Yeah, I can sympathise about Melbourne but it’s not much better in Sydney today.

The main Royal Caribbean board is a wealth of knowledge.

ask Ken , Ourusallbeach ,he is an agent that specialises in RCG ,what he doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing.

I've disembarked early but not on RC. The itinerary was changed by the cruise line from what I booked which may have softened their stance but I requested the change once on board as I realised that it would make more sense for me to disembark at the port before the final one. All ports were within Australia so immigration was not involved.

It is courteous to let them know what you are doing but if they say you must pay in full before asking the question, I can't see how they can stop you from disembarking in Melbourne.

To do so would be kidnapping.

If it was to drive to the next port, get back on board and continue the cruise, they could refuse re embarkation but how could they justify not ending a cruise a day earlier?

I think if you demanded to leave the ship with out some agreement with Royal Caribbean you would be in breach of your contract of carriage.

Next time you go to book a cruise you will probably be on a black list and denied passage.
