SxyEbnyFem Posted June 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Even though my bf & I are going on our first cruise ever with some pals (who are couples as well), I am also taking a second cruise with the gals later that same year. Being that I have never cruised before, I am excited about both cruises!! One of our pals is having issues with his gf coming along with me on the gal pal cruise. (I am really not that bad of an influence, ya know! ) So, this brings me to ask, how many of you have cruised without your significant other (be that wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend)? If you haven't done so, would you? Happy sailing, T. until my very FIRST cruise Days til Valor Vampires Cruise
bonstersd Posted June 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2004 I cruised last year w/o my bf and I had a blast. He won't go on cruises, so I have to go without him. I did all the things I've done on the previous cruises, except I didn't flirt w/any boys. I drank, danced, gambled, ate, and met some really great people. I'm going again w/o the bf in February with a big group of people. I'm even sharing a cabin with a male friend and the bf has no problem with it. jeepgirl30 Posted June 7, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 7, 2004 I would not go on a vacation without my DH. I don't want to spend my vacation time and money without him. Trust in a relationship has nothing to do with it for us. A weekend away somewhere is one thing but an extended vacation is quite another. We also have small children so for me to be away from DH and the kids is just something I don't have a desire to do right now. Imagination 3/2003 Days until Sensation... BUT BUT BUT...if this guy won't even go WITH her, then she should by all means go without him...and maybe he'll realize how much he misses her and that she can be independant and he'll come 'round. michelle319 Posted June 7, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 7, 2004 DH and I are cruising together for the second time this August. It's our first 7 night cruise. I can't wait! We are leaving our three boys (11, 8 and 5) home with the grandparents. I have been looking forward to this cruise for forever I've also taken two cruises with "the girls". Both were long weekends (3-nighters) and I had a blast! Nothing like a quick weekend away from all the "Mom" stuff. I came home refreshed and ready to tackle everyday life again. My DH encouraged me to go. Which was better?? Definately the one with DH who is my best friend in the world! I would rather be with him than anyone else. With that being said, it's still perfectly fine to have the "girls only" weekends. In fact, we have one in the works for 2005. imsulin Posted June 7, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 7, 2004 I've been on cruises with DH (when he was still living), with SO, with kids, with gal-pals, with large groups, and by myself. It really doesn't matter to me! In fact, some of my favorite cruises were the solo ones! Didn't have to wait for anyone, did my own thing, got up and went to bed as I pleased, ate when I wanted, went to the beach for the day instead of doing an excursion, and didn't even hog the one pool chair I had! SO was either in Hong Kong/Belize/London/or who knows where! Grown kids were busy with their lives. Gal-pals couldn't get time off work. Large groups are about once every other year. Have Passport - will travel! That's just my philosophy. I'm with gatour!
kandj Posted June 7, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 7, 2004 DH and I took our first cruise (and prob his last) together and the next 2 were with "the girls". To me it's two totally different experiences. The cruise with the DH was pretty relaxing. He doesn't dance, gambles a little, not one for sightseeing and he's not a late night kinda guy. We pretty much just ate, drank the first night, and spent evenings up on deck looking at the water and talking. Now with "the girls" it was party party party! We go to dinner maybe half the time, go to the bar dancing every night, parasailing, carlos and charlies, go go go! Way toooo much fun! Both are great and I wouldn't give up either nor do I have a preference for one. Honey time and girl time both serve their purposes. If her man can't see that now it'll only get worse if she gives in. aggieastrosfan Posted June 7, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 7, 2004 I'm taking my mom on a "girl's cruise" in December. I hate the thought at leaving DH home, but as much as he wants to go, he has no vacation left. I'll have to enjoy this one, though, because it'll probably be the only cruise I'll ever get without him, which is fine with me! This one is a chance to take my mom on a real vacation, though; he's been great about it! 'Till the Grand Princess 12/4/04 Holiday 12/00 - Baja Elation 05/02 - Mexican Riviera Elation 05/04 - W. peggy655 Posted June 7, 2004 #21 Share Posted June 7, 2004 If you are able to afford going away with your girlfriends and not jeopardize your annual vacation plans with significant other I say go for it. For the past several years I have had the opportunity to cruise with six high school friends and we all leave our husbands home when we go away and have a wonderful time. Most of the girls have been friends since the early teens and although each of us have traveled a different path in life it is a lasting friendship that has stood the test of time(over35+ years). Although we started taking a 3 day weekend cruise I have to admit it has been extended to 7days for the past two years. We only see each other once a year as we all live in different regions of the country and all of our husbands encourage us to keep this annual trip alive. I would encourage your friend to do what she wants but also know that should her significant other wants a separate vacation she has to be willing to allow him that freedom too. misssea Posted June 8, 2004 #22 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Some years back, my girlfriend and I went on our first cruise, leaving behind one husband and one boyfriend. They had a singles deck party one night and because we were "involved", we watched the party from the deck above just to check things out. These two guys came up and asked us why we weren't down below and when we explained our situation to them, they were totally furious to think that 2 girls could be on a cruise but taken at the same time (and be honest and faithful). Besides that night, we had a blast and actually met a lot of great guys who were totally understanding. In fact, by the end of the week, those two guys got to know us through our dinner table mates and realized we weren't all that bad even though we were off limits. BrendaB1 Posted June 8, 2004 #23 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Hi Bonstersd! Nice to see my Conquest buddy again. We had a ball didn't we Bonnie? I have cruised several times without my b/f. My now ex was a total bore aboard a cruise ship so I started leaving him at home & having the time of my life. I travel now with a happily married g/f whose husband doesn't travel & we have a blast. halos Posted June 8, 2004 #25 Share Posted June 8, 2004 I'm sorry that your girlfriend's SO doesn't trust her....it may just be an immaturity that he'll outgrow, or it may be an insecurity he'll never outgrow. If it's the latter, I hope she gets rid of him before making a serious commitment. Living without trust is not a good thing. As for your question...I haven't cruised without my husband yet, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't. I don't think I'd manage a weeks cruise without him...I know it sounds sappy but he truly is my best friend (we have been married for 22 years...We started dating when we were Freshman in HIGH SCHOOL!!) I know I'd have a good time away from him for a long weekend, but I don't think I could do a week away...although it doesn't mean if given the opportunity that I wouldn't at least try it!! He would have no issue with me going...which is good because if he did, we wouldn't have lasted this long.
