Hello all,we are on the Rotterdam TA and arrive in Rotterdam on Kings Day.  I’m hearing that the trains and public transportation will be Harte get.  We are traveling to Delft and are concerned that we won’t be able to get there by train when we disembark.  Any info would be appreciated.

Should be no problem, all trains to Den Haag(The Hague) will stop in Delft, every 20 minutes.

Expect trains to be a bit more busy than other days but not a real problem. However please stay (and watch) with your luggage at all times

Thanks for the info.  Do you know how to get to the Tulip Gardens from Delft?

Do you mean Keukenhof Gardens? On King’s Day or are you staying in Delft?

From Delft, I think your best public transport route would be train to Leiden and then the special bus to Keukenhof from the station there.  Combination transport and entry tickets will be available from the Keukenhof website next month:

Thank you Cotswold Eagle for the info.  We will be staying in Delft for 2 days and would like to go to keukenhof gardens on Sunday.  I will check out the website next month.  Thanks again for your information.

My father will be celebrating his 95th birthday as it is the same as the King of the Netherlands in Rotterdam in April 27, 2024 as we disembark the Ms. Rotterdam.

Can anyone tell me what hotel to book so he can see the King’s day celebration from there, perhaps to see the royal family or some fireworks?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Susan

The Royal Family visit a different municipality every year for King's Day, and they were in Rotterdam this year, so sadly I doubt you will see them there next year.

No doubt some of our local contributors will be along to say more about the festivities!

This year the Royal family will be joining the festivities in Emmen, in the northeastern part of our country.

There are no fireworks at Kingsday. Yes, it is our national holiday, but we don’t celebrate it the same way as the USA celebrates their national holiday with parades and fireworks.
Read up on how we do celebrate it here; https://www.holland.com/global/tourism/getting-around/information/the-royal-family/kings-day-in-holland.htm

If your father wants to see the festivities from his hotel room window, you would need to book him a hotel in central Rotterdam.

Dear Dutch Travelgirl, You have a special meaning to suggest a hotel in central Rotterdam?, because OP told us they will travel to Delft.

You know for sure that to see the festivities in Emmen is hardly a possibility, because by train it takes more than 3 hours from the cruise terminal in Rotterdam to the railway station in Emmen.

IMO the only possibility to see the whole of those festivities in Emmen is the TV in any nice hotelroom.

Kind regards!

It’s a different poster enquiring about their grandfather viewing King’s Day from (presumably) Rotterdam - it’s not entirely clear, but hopefully they will read up a little and come back with more focused questions!
