LOL - anyone else getting a visual on this? It could explain those posts about noises heard in some cabins.

(OP, I know what your post meant - it just gave me a mental image that made me giggle).

Always sailed the Jewel class ships ....now considering the Escape . Any advice on choosing a deck ...we always have a cabin between decks .

thanks

Personally, we pick Deck 15 near the aft elevator (two strikes for some people).

Rationale:

We want to minimize the distance to walk to an elevator. We're old and not having to hike to the elevator every time we go to our stateroom is good on the knees. So picking a room near or at an elevator lobby is what we want.

We prefer the highest deck. In the middle decks, the elevators are normally full going up/down. Getting on at the top helps. Do you hear kids running on the deck above, sure. But not much more noise and nothing at night.

We pick aft so it is a quick trip up to the Buffet for snacks.

Not sure what this means. Aren't all cabins between decks?

In any case, we prefer cabins as close as possible to mid-ship to minimize movement. Also, not too high or low...usually deck ten. No public spaces above or below. (Maybe that's what you meant by "between decks"??)

Yes, thanks .. we had a cabin below the pool deck on the Sun ..didn't think it would be a problem . Until we realised it was under the smoking area and up to 20 people congregated there after the bars had close . We heard every scrape , every movement of chairs every night.

We usually choose deck 10 on the  Jewel class ships ... what I should have posted was "between accommodation decks".

Escape has large balconies on deck 9, family balconies on decks 14/15 and balconies on 8/9/10/11/12/13/14 and 15.   Thanks for your replies, Bird Travels and Schmoopie 17.

Thanks, Bird for your Escape blog .

I would choose a deck down one level to avoid that possible noise form above.

Over the years, I also have chosen cabins near the aft elevators for the same reasons.

It came as quite a surprise to me that the Bliss's buffet is forward, so we are near the forward elevators this January.

I think that having the buffet in the rear makes much more sense design wise. Outside table area is shielded from the winds on sea days. Been that way on every ship I've seen for the last 20+ years.

Like Bird, we prefer AFT, starboard, higher floors, and near elevators. Been on the Escape twice. To me, midship is far from the elevators down the long "Shining type" hallways. I feel the higher floors give you a better view of the water. And starboard side gives you the views , generally, while docking. Personally I'd never do anything below 11, too low down and you look out at lifeboats. Have been on floor 13 and 12

I think picking a cabin comes down to what you like to do on the ship. On the Escape, Aft has the buffet, H20 adults area and where some of the parties like 80s night are held, cagneys, main dining rooms, short walk from aft elevators to casino. I also find it quieter as anything remotely near the pool (which is more mid-forward) and you'll hear the music

If you like the pool, have Vibe passes, like the atrium then mid and forward are better for you.

I would like to throw in my recommendation for a floor on the lowest deck! I know it's not as popular as the higher decks since they are closer to the action, but with the lowest deck I'm closer to the OCEAN! Assuming you get a balcony, I have seen things up close just by staring out my balcony. Seals, dolphins, jellyfish, you name it. I've also seen one of those derpy looking ocean sunfish, and they are WAY bigger up close.

Perhaps the best reason to be down there is the elevators. You're guaranteed an empty elevator as no one needs to go down there unless their room is down there, meaning they will empty out. The elevators will get you to the deck in less than a minute, so no point staying up there anyways.

From my personal experience, staying up near the lido is louder, busier and made me binge on things like alcohol and buffets. But that's just me...

This time we are looking at the Escape.

Deck 10 for us. I spend most my on-ship time on 6/7/8 and don't like stairs. My wife spends her time on top and loves walking the steps.
