Why I Love Brisbane

Brisbane NOT an exciting CITY??? 🤷‍♂️ 😲 😵 Who would say that....🤣

It was sort of a sarcastic term that wasn't used much, but didn't they market "Come to Brisvegas" when the Treasury casino opened?

Are you sure about this? It was said decades ago (and nothing to be proud of I felt, unlike your pride in Brissie's spread) that Melbourne had the biggest urban sprawl in the world. Melbourne is massive and these days even takes in the whole of the Mornington Peninsula.

I had two years on the Gold Coast at the start of the 1980's and I remember well how once you left the outskirts of Brisbane's southern edge there was 50 minutes of nothing before getting to the northern edge of the Gold Coast. Open fields and rusting tin sheds.

The last time I attempted to fly into Brisbane and drive down to the Gold Coast was 15 years ago or so and I spent about two and a half hours of agony in multi-lane bumper-to-bumper traffic and I vowed never to do that drive again. Gone are the days of having to take the young kids to the 'Worlds' during our holiday.

We used to stop at Beenleigh to have a pie, to let the car cool down, so the car didn't boil on the long journey.

During the Vietnam War, they used to call for volunteers to take the soldiers on R&R to the beach.  I used to rock up to the ship in my Hillman Stationwagon and take as many as would fit in my car.

I don't know, I really like "Big Country Towns", much more laid back.😊

I agree.  I really liked the customs of small country towns and the friendly hard working people.

The One teacher school where the teacher would turn around and throw a piece of chalk.  Whoever got hit by the chalk got to pick the next song.  Came the exciting time when I got hit by the piece of chalk.  Unfortunately my family had singalongs around the piano that adults and children all sang.  Seems the song I chose was deemed unsuitable for school children.

I liked the "bring a plate" to share after Church.

I liked the competitive tennis matches which followed,

I was fascinated by the metal tube the shop keeper put the money in and how it wizzed up across the shop to the Office.

I liked how the understanding shop keeper put all items for my great aunt under groceries.
