Hi all,

Can I still use cash in the slots or is it all medallion based and use onboard account? Will be on Discovery if that helps.

Thanks

You can still insert cash into slot machines.  You lose it just as fast as if you charge it to your medallion.

One of the benefits of charging it to your room is that you may earn points on your credit card when final payment is rendered.

I won't discuss the "other" reason.

Thanks,

Cash is better for me as I already have USD and my credit card charges international transaction fees and the exchange rate they offer is not that good.

Yes, you set up an account and then you put cash in the machine. When you are finished with that machine you cash out and the money goes into your account. You can then transfer money from your account into the next machine or cash out at the casino cashier cage. I hope this makes sense.

You scan your medallion when you find a slot you want to play, your login is your month and year of birth.  The machines take cash no problem just remember to cash out when you're finished playing or switching machines.  The money goes into your bank and then wait until your information is gone and the machine resets back to zero before leaving it.

You can go to the cash cage and retrieve your money each time if you wish, but make sure you've collected it before the casino closes on the last night.

Go to the passenger services desk, load the cash onto your account, and then charge your room using the medallion at the machines

Is the money you use in the casino a separate "pot" of money, or does it keep building up on your room charge?
For example, let's say I don't want to lose more than $500. in gambling expenses on my trip. Will it stop once the $500. runs out, or will it keep adding debt to my room charge (hence, credit card), running the risk of, say, a $2000. charge to my account?
Thanks!   🙂

The accounts are separate. When you go to the casino and use your medallion to charge playing money to your shipboard account, a separate casino account is created. You have to cash out the casino account before the end of the voyage.

If you start with playing cash and cash out to your medallion, those funds are used to create a casino account. You have to cash that out before the end of the voyage as well.

You have to add casino credit from your onboard account (to your "bank").   It does not add more without you asking for it.

My wife says it does...should I believe her?

Sorry, your wife is incorrect. The amount you transfer into the casino account is the amount you have to play with. When it runs out there is not a mechanism in place to automagically charge more to your account. It is entirely up to you how much you are willing to gamble.
