Silver sea Whisper in the Med

Hi Folks, new to Silversea and I have a cruise on hold.  I’m on the verge of telling the TA yes.   I think I feel guilty about the cost, even their smallest vista suite,  but I’m amazed travel is included.  I live in the US and this particular cruse starts in Rome and ends in Barcelona. Getting my own air tickets is pricey and a nightmare from multi city.  I’m fairly high up in Celebrity and Celebrity and MSC both have cruises the same time, and for much less, but much more crowded ships and Silversea has those excursions included.  I like the entertainment and nightlife and casino on celebrity, but this would be my first trip to the Med, and the cruise stops in Monte Carlo so there’s that.    I am probably preaching to the choir, but anyone here ever regret the money they spend or feel it’s not of value?

NOPE.

Thee is no way to compare MSC with Silversea.

Even in the MSC Yacht Club, unless you never leave the Yacht Club. Only been on Celebrity once for a brief cruise.

The crowds, yikes!

You only live once, make it the best it can be.

As we all have experienced in the past several years, unexpected stuff happens and life gets put on hold.

Enjoy yours.

Silversea will help!

If guilt is the only thing giving you pause and not your budget then I say go for it.  I have sailed Celebrity, though years ago, but SS is nicer in so many ways.  Service, food, beverages, staterooms, staff to pax ratio. The all-inclusiveness is a big factor as well - gratuities, beverages, excursions.  You will sense the difference in comfort and luxury as soon as you board the ship though your very first impression may be surprise at how small the ship is.  You will not be thrilled with the casino or the entertainment but as you say, you’ll be in the Med. and the cruise is port-intensive.  You won’t be bored.

We had some fun cruises on Celebrity. Our last one was 2008. Since then we've been on fifteen Silversea cruises and we have three more booked. I hope that helps answer your question.

I only cruised in small ships. Not many, but I never regretted. SS and Seabourn are great. I wish I could do more. If budget is not a problem, go for it.

I agree with all . I was on the Silver Shadow in Recife Brazil March 2020. We were stranded there due to COVID . Silversea was nothing less than awesome . The captain sent us champagne at least twice . Silversea chartered a plane and flew us to Dallas Texas . Governor Abbott gave us permission to come there . We arrived in Dallas at around 11:00pm and Silversea had a wonderful buffet set up in a big room they leased ..they had it all ..and we then boarded buses to the Hyatt to shower and rest in our rooms for about 5 or 6 hours . We left early morning back to the airport and they had a big buffet breakfast for us . We were then flown home by different lear jets and driven right to our front doors . AND before I left Brazil they moved me to a a Silver Suite and I was very stunned. I told Mark Conroy in Dallas that I had a motto ..." If it ain't Silversea it ain't for me " I got a note from him and also Barbara Muckermann ...Go for it and never look back !! They go above and beyond for their passengers ! 🙂

What they did for you on your voyage and the similarly stranded Spirit that was unable to dock anywhere, was exceptional. Being welcomed back by the SS president who flew in from Miami (I believe) was a nice touch.

The only story I’m aware of that beats this was for the guests on the stricken Viking Sky listing outside of Bergen, who were on the final 2 days of a 12 or 14 day cruise and airlifted to safety in Bergen. The owner flew in to greet guests the following morning and announce that unfortunately the cruise was now cancelled. Every guest received a full cash refund for this cruise. Given a FCC to the value of what they had paid as well, plus a free sailing oof their choise, on their newest ship about to launch (Viking Venus.) Definitely don’t think that compensation will ever be beaten.

Two years ago we were having a mediocre South American cruise when my wife caught Covid. She had zero symptoms apart from being locked away for 10 days - and a bit depressed! We missed our disembarkation port. When she was released from jail, we felt like we were treated like royalty for the remainder of our extended (FOC) cruise which went from 16 to 25 days. SS sorted our transfers and flights back from Santigo. We were also compensated for “loss of days” whilst in the red zone quarantine. We were far from happy at the opening few days of the cruise  and the unfortunate quarantine, but credit given for our treatment once out of quarantine, wonderful treatment, extended cruise and sorting the new flights.

i believe quarantine now is 5 days and I don’t believe any compensation is now offered. (The last part said on the Dawn last month by a guest who was quarantined… can’t verify!)
