Brisbane pre cruise hotel recommendations

Recommended Posts

We’ve stayed at the Kingsford Smith a couple of times. The Portside shopping area across the road (the old cruise terminal) has some reasonably priced restaurants, a good IGA supermarket and the hotel owners will run you over to the cruise terminal. The also have a nice pool  which you can use even after checking out.

Have to disagree with the 80's bit Geoff, some maybe, but the Kingsford Smith Motel has been beautifully redone, is more modern and cleaner than some hotels we have stayed at recently.

We found it really easy to cross the road and walk to Woolies etc.

The area it a lot quieter than once was when we used to cruise from Portside.

We are  only staying at Novotel Airport in a couple of weeks time as I got it for $140 and we are flying in otherwise we would have booked Kingsford Smith again.

Wife and daughter on the Quantum at present time stayed pre cruise at the Kingsford Smith Motel and will spend 2 nights there post cruise, both raved about it over the phone. Fantastic room close to facilities and the staff could not be more helpful.

Great to hear, I am there again in September and have a Family suite booked as with daughter and 3 grandsons.

We had a swim in the little pool, and a fab dinner across the road. Seagrill cafe, It's advertised as a seafood restaurant, but out the back it is Vietnamese, so glad we found that little gem, felt like we were back in Viet Nam. Hubby wants to stay at the hotel again just to eat there haha!!

Unfortunately they don't offer "free to cruise terminal shuttle" any more, now they offer "free to airport shuttle".

The apartment-hotel at Portside is called Alcyone. There are other options around as well. At Portside there are plenty of restaurant options and a 24hr cafe downstairs from Alcyone. There's an IGA supermarket in the precinct and a Woolworths in the neighbouring complex.

Plus a movie theatre, Dendy if you need to fill in time.  Portside is walking distance to ferry to

City or Bulimba on opposite of the river.

There are a number of nice motels near Portside. Racecourse Avenue at Ascot nearby has a good selection of eateries.

We have cruised out of Brisbane a couple of times (arriving/departing by air).  From the airport, we got a free shuttle (https://www.bne.com.au/sites/default/files/2017-08/Brisbane Airport Skygate Loop Timetable - July 2017.pdf) to the Skygate Shopping Centre (+DFO) which has a big woolworths and lots of shops and restaurants, stayed at the Novotel https://novotelbrisbaneairport.com.au/, then next day caught a taxi to the port.  It is a shorter distance than taking a taxi from the airport.

After the cruise, we catch a taxi to the airport, check in our bags then if we have a late flight catch the shuttle back to Skygate and then return to the airport in time for our flight.

If you do go to skygate, you have to walk through skygate and out into the carpark on the other side - the TKMaxx is at the other end of the carpark - not far but still in another building.  🙂

For those staying in the Hamilton or airport area on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday night, Northshore Eat Street is worth the effort for a casual meal & drink. It has been a few years since we were last there, but are heading there from our Portside diggs in a couple of weeks time.
