chill6x6 Posted February 27 #1 Share Posted February 27 Hello all, I've decided to book the 11 day Panama Canal itinerary aboard the Jade. I have stayed in suites(Star) and Haven suites(Getaway,Breakway,Escape) but have never even been on this class of ship that has both suites and Haven suites. I'm about to book a cabin and can't make up my mind which one to get. It's kind of confusing, Has anyone stayed in both a suite and a Haven suite aboard a Jewel-class ship and can say exactly what the difference is? I understand access to the Haven for Haven suites and no access for regular suites. I understand both eat breakfast and lunch in a speciality restaurant. I sure would appreciate any comments comparing the two. Thank you!

Suite guest on Jewel class ships get all the perks of Haven guest with the exception of 2? things. Use of the Haven courtyard and use of the Haven sundeck. Butler service, concierge etc.... is all the same. Suites on Jewel class ship can be considerably cheaper. My wife and I booked a forward suite on the Gem for Bermuda. It was 2K cheaper than the smallest Haven cabin
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 27 #3 Share Posted February 27 I’ve only stayed in non-Haven suites on the Jewel class ships (both forward and aft-facing penthouses). I’ve seen the Haven area, and it didn’t grab me. (Obviously, I can’t opine on what it’s actually like to stay in Haven suites on those ships.) But if you can book one of the forward-facing non-Haven penthouses for a Panama Canal cruise (especially on Deck 10, the two middle suites), you’ll have the same awesome views as the Captain. 😊
WillCruiseForMoney Posted February 27 #4 Share Posted February 27 Have been in both Haven and non Haven suites on Jewell-class ships. I do not feel the Haven on these ships is worth the increased cost. Although the corner Owners suites on deck 9 and 10 are absolutely awesome for the Panama Canal as they have both a forward and side balcony. We did this on the Jewell through the canal, and rarely went into the Haven area during that cruise. As Lazlo it is just a small courtyard and a Sundeck.
chill6x6 Posted February 27 Author #5 Share Posted February 27 Thanks to everyone for their replies! Yeah the OS on deck nine and ten are nice and the main attraction IS the two balconies. The difference in price I come up with for suites 10000 and 9004(OS) is $6300! That's almost $573 a day! I really can't see it!
FLAHAM Posted February 27 #6 Share Posted February 27 The Haven is quiet and comfortable. An attendant will bring you whatever you like—even setup a breakfast or lunch. The pool is a swim-against-the-current endless lap pool, perhaps the only place in the NCL fleet to get in a real swim.
jamin jul Posted February 27 #7 Share Posted February 27 I’m booked in regular balcony on Jade for Panama canal cruise. I was looking at front suite also. Never been on NCL ship. Looks like there is a forward sun deck and a forward lounge- are both available to non suite guests to watch forward thru the canal?
Nilbog Posted February 28 #8 Share Posted February 28 Having been in the Haven OS on the Jewel and the forward-facing penthouse suite on the Pearl for a partial canal transit, I wouldn't pay the extra for the Haven on a Jewel class, even though that Haven OS was an AWESOME cabin. Like @Turtles06 said, if you get one of the forward-facing penthouse suites on deck 9 or 10 you'll get the same view of the canal as the Captain. The other thing to look at is an aft-facing penthouse suite (non-Haven). I absolutely love the aft suites, and have done that on the Pearl through the canal, too. Loved that view, too.

The Jade's sun deck on Deck 14 forward and the Spinnaker Lounge (Deck 13, forward) are open to everyone (not only in the Canal but at all times). That's one of the things I like about the Jewel-class ships -- they have forward-facing outdoor and indoor spaces open to all. So many new builds (not just on NCL) are "unconnected" to the water, and/or have restricted areas like these to suite guests. Also, during the transit of the Canal, the bow area on Deck 8 (normally off limits to guests) will be open to everyone (see my photo in comment 3 above).
dexddd Posted February 28 #10 Share Posted February 28 Haven on Jewel class not worth it. OS on that class get Haven access.
chill6x6 Posted February 28 Author #11 Share Posted February 28 One more question.... Is it doable to sit in your loungers on the balconies of 10000/10500 while underway?

In 10002 on the Pearl and 9004 on the Jewel we used the loungers while under way. It was breezy under way, but doable.

Just be REALLY careful opening and closing the sea door. Be sure your fingers are nowhere near the door frame. And never open the door to your cabin when the door to the balcony is open. (It's a mistake you would only make once. 🙂)

It's usually very crowded for the first lockages, less so later in the day.
complawyer Posted March 5 #18 Share Posted March 5 the only real difference is the haven pool area, and sun deck. we've been in both category's. the rooms are essentially the same. save your self the extra few $1,000 and book the suite. you can still have breakfast in modernos, lunch in cagney's and still get the 24 hr on call butler and concierge. someone no less than a casino's at sea rep asked me would you spend the extra money, just for the separate pool/jacuzzi? unless the particular ship has a designated haven complex (their own restaurant, bar, lounge area etc) which i believe or as i remember the jade does not, youre miles and miles ahead just booking the suite(not club balcony suites)
