OV on Meraviglia

Has anyone sailed in the OV cabins on Deck 5 of the Meraviglia? How was it being that low on the ship? I have never sailed in an OV or inside cabin, so have never been below Deck 8 on any ship I have sailed.

I was on deck 3 in an OV cabin on the Ossis of the Seas in November and I enjoyed it. Big window and it was fairly close to water level so it was really nice to look out and really see the waves. Very calm too.

In general, lower decks are less prone to motion than higher decks.  I believe that the cabin size is similar to a standard balcony.  You could get some noise from night time parties on deck 6.

I like low deck OV cabins....great view of the "angry ocean" in bad weather.

Where are you going?  I find that there is no need for a balcony if you're going to Canada or Bermuda....the sea day weather is not condusive for "sitting outdoors".

It's a CA & NE sailing which is exactly why we were considering an OV versus our normal balcony.

Yes...balcony is a waste of money.  We've done that route almost annually for "a long long time"....and unless the price was very close and the cabin in a better location....OV is the way to go.  I think you're going in May (?); if so, chances are you'll never use it.

Yeah, early May at that!

The current Flash Sale doesn't, it's just balcony for OV.  But a few weeks ago MSC,  for the first time that I've seen, did the Flash sales on the Drinks &WiFi prices.   After that the inclusive prices went back up and were still up when the current Flash sale started,  but this week on several Meraviglia sailings the inclusive price is now back down to the same lower prices. OBC has dropped $50 though.

ETA: I  was looking today and noticed MSC dropped several of the base Cruise Only fares on these Flash Sale sailings.  If you click on the Flash Sale links you will not see the lowered inside rates.

I am hoping that after the flash sale, prices might drop, for the drinks & wifi deal. So I will check again tomorrow.

I've been watching that sailing,  the current Drinks & WiFi price is significantly lower than what it has been.  First image was the Flash Sale a few weeks ago and second is the price it had been for months.   Currently they are back to the lower price.   Hard to say if it will get any better, but there's lots of unsold cabins.

To return to your topic I can describe my deck five OV sailing on Seaside.  I didn't notice much difference motion wise, comparable to deck nine through eleven cabins I've been in.  But definitely less motion than the higher deck cabins. I'm not sure if it is a Seaside class thing based on engine location but we were midship and noticed a definite constant loud droning of engine noise.   We were about five cabins forward of the atrium but didn't get any noise from there,  also were below the shops so no noise from above.   Met lots of officers in the deck five hallway.  Close the curtain at night because you might wake to port workers right outside the window in the morning.

Since you mentioned deck five I know this doesn't apply but for others I'll include advice not to book a Bella OV (in hopes of a complimentary balcony) on Meraviglia due to the possibility of getting assigned one of the tiny junior or obstructed OV cabins.

  • 3 weeks later...

We are now booked on the Enchanted Princess for May 4 out of Ft. Lauderdale. I got a casino offer than made the total price appealing and we decided to give Princess another try, despite our one other Princess sailing being the worst cruise we have ever been on. We will be back on the Meraviglia in October and January.
