shippmates Posted March 24 #51 Share Posted March 24 I like the fish and chips for one lunch and my nest go to for lunch is the cauliflower leek pie. My two favorite lunches in the Golden Lion.
bluemarble Posted May 1 #52 Share Posted May 1 (edited) I'm reviving this thread since I just saw a Golden Lion menu for Queen Anne posted on Twitter (sorry, on X). It looks like it's a lunch menu but it wasn't specifically identified as such so I can't say for certain. I'll transcribe the contents here. TowandaUK Posted May 1 #54 Share Posted May 1 (edited) Thanks for posting this. I’m disappointed. I don’t think I will be buying a cheese toastie or a burger at those prices when there are so many included dishes to be found there and elsewhere. Even if it was developed by Michel Roux. JT1101 Posted May 1 #55 Share Posted May 1 I like the menu itself not the supplements - Golden Lion was always traditionally fare included.
Rare tacticalbanjo Posted May 1 #56 Share Posted May 1 No curry! I’ll be giving Michel Roux a piece of my mind when I go to Le Gavroche at Sea next month. Also not impressed with the supplements in a previously free venue.

Also not impressed with the supplements in a previously free venue. Please do . The curry is part of my embarkation day ritual. Cabin to pick up card and dining card, muster station Golden Lion for a curry, then check my dining arrangements and then to Kings Court for an ice cream. Partial to a pie too.
majortom10 Posted May 2 #58 Share Posted May 2 As previous thought and said "if it is not broken do not try and fix it" and Cunard and Mr Roux have certainly done that and IMO the .emu is a awful and will not attract me to frequent it in July. Pity as always loved fish and chips, curry and ploughman's in its original form. So it's a big NO from me.

JT1101 Posted May 2 #60 Share Posted May 2 (edited) Something weird is Golden Lion for Queen Anne is now broken out separately on the website as additional Cost dining. The Golden Lion for the rest of the fleet is listed as included dining (a la Britannia). As to the menu all our favorites are still there ("Cunard Gold Beer-Battered Sustainable Hake" is our Fish and Chips and that dish has no surcharge for example). Always have an open mind but have no interest in paying extra supplements and not liking Hake doesn't leave a lot of options. Does not matter how open mind you have if you don't like something you don't like it.

King Amo Posted May 2 #63 Share Posted May 2 I'm ambivalent to this change. It gives people a reasonably accessible way of trying some Michel Roux-specified dishes and will to a certain extent manage demand at the Golden Lion, which in my experience has always been uncomfortably high. It's not as if there is now a full cover charge; just some dishes with elevated ingredients that have a supplement.

JT1101 Posted May 2 #65 Share Posted May 2 I strongly suspect this changed menu exists only on Queen Anne. As noted above the website lists Golden Lion for Queen Anne separately from the rest and classifies it as additional charge. Meanwhile the Golden Lion on the rest of the fleet is still categorized as included. 1
Rare Victoria2 Posted May 2 #66 Share Posted May 2 I'd order the fish and chips and the scotch egg, leave the fish and have the scotch eggs with chips and mushy peas. Eclectic I know but very tasty. or better still try out the 'Artisan' Lido. It sounds marvellous.

For the time being how long a period will it be before it is spread across the fleet.
Rare WantedOnVoyage Posted May 4 #68 Share Posted May 4 I love it... The Queen Anne Plague.... $11 burgers, little uncomfortable chairs and six hanger wardrobes... spreading through the fleet, ravaging and infecting all before it.
Rare Germancruiser Posted May 4 #69 Share Posted May 4 I really don´t mind paying 11 Dollars for a good Burger. If the chairs are comfy- well that remains to be seen after I have tried them myself. LOL. The only constant is the change- wether we like it or not.
JT1101 Posted May 4 #70 Share Posted May 4 All of Queen Anne's specialty restaurant menus are available. Of interest is that all of them seem to follow the convention of having a mix of additional charge items and included in fare items.
