Avalon Go App

 Share

Recommended Posts

Was prompted to download this a week or so ago for our forthcoming river cruise in April. All was fine on there, showed everything correctly including flights.

Yesterday it showed that there had been an update to it. It now shows what I imagine is the whole boats flights! I can see flights from various USA airports on various dates before the cruise, as well as our own flights and other UK flights. Same for the return home.

There is no identifying information - if I click on the flight it doesn't give me passenger names or anything. But this is still a bit odd. Same has happened on my husband's app.

Today even more flights have appeared.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before? Seems like it's some kind of glitch, and I'm not too concerned about it (our flights are still showing fine on the airline website). Hopefully in a few days it will sort itself out and go back to normal. Bit weird though seeing all those flights listed!

Oh, is THAT what it is?  Just noticed it this morning.  I did my own air and flying on United, so it certainly caught my eye.  I'd prefer not to stop in Fort Wayne on my way to Paris!  What a mess, hope there's no identifying info on the Avalon app.   Apparently anyone connecting at O'Hare gets published on the app, what fun.  No doubt they'll catch it soon and fix it.  Someone's going to be in the doghouse for this little blunder.

That sounds like a hack not a glitch. Recently two river cruise companies have been hacked I should check with Avalon if I were you.

Oh thank you for this; I'll delete the app right now.

It was a glitch with all Globus groups, hopefully it’s fixed now. @jsn55, it’s handy to have for your cruise as they don’t leave dailies in your cabin anymore. I think you can ask for them at reception, but not sure.

Yes of course I'll reinstall the app once it's 'fixed'.  My cruise starts April 2.  Hopefully just the glitch and not a hack.  I think it's hilarious that cruiseline 'dailies' disappeared the minute apps became readily available.  Always enjoyed them every evening.  I don't see much enjoyment out of reading a daily on a tiny phone screen.  Did anyone ask the pax what they'd prefer?

I'm sure if it was a "hack", they would have taken it down. No one seems to have lost it, just getting all the flight data.

Avalon has long been known as being "green". That is why the went to the app, and paperless travel packets. The loss of dailies is just going further. I like it, so much got left behind and when I get home, I can download it to my desktop and save it for future reference...as well as menus.

So maybe I could put each daily on my laptop so it's readable?  That would be cool.  Assuming I can figure out how to do it of course.

My cruise starts the week after yours. Still have a long list of just about every single flight combination on my app!

I believe I "emailed" each daily, menu etc. to my address, then opened & saved it there. You have to be able to convert the file to a .pdf. If you are on a Mac, you may be able to d/l the app on your Mac through the Apple store? I know some are downloadable, but not positive how to go about it. We travel with tablets, so I use those as well as my phone. 🙂

As for the app showing multiple flights, don't worry about it. Double check with your airline's app, they will have the correct information, or your TA. It's on both the Avalon app and the Globus app, some have it fixed, some don't.

Now that's clever!  And I know how to send it from my to my laptop ... I think!  I hope Avalon gets this glitch under control, the app has a lot of great info and history that I want to read before the cruise starts.  But I won't install the app again until this all gets cleared up.  I've never had a single problem with technology, I'm soooo careful with it all.

I know with Apple if you have an IPad and an IPhone if you take a photograph with one it will automatically also appear on the others photo cache, well it does on mine, I love that spooky arrangement. If you have a camera which uses memory cards there is a piece of kit to transfer the card contents to an iPad. I’m most probably teaching my grandmother to suck eggs here but I don’t like using my iPad to take photographs but it is useful to check them more closely.

@Canal archive, I agree about using an iPad for photos. I usually have my phone in my pocket, but my camera around my neck. You can easily get USB card readers to transfer pictures. We d/l all of ours to Google photos for easy viewing on my iPad, but save all from both of our phones to the card from my camera for when we get home and can view on our monitor for editing. I take 1 card for each day so it’s easy to keep track.

My husband is just really glad everything is digital as I am known to take several shots of the same thing to make sure I get a good photo.

Yes, this is an error not a hack. The issue is now resolved.

I emailed the Avalon support team at the time and this was their response:

Hi there,

We are aware of a system issue with our GoApps - our technology team are working diligently to correct the issue. Apologies for the confusion.

Thank you for choosing the Globus family of brands.

Have a wonderful day!

Yup, I got the same response.  But it's not resolved.  Glad they're 'working diligently' and I feel bad for pax who booked air through Avalon.

Even if your air was booked through Avalon, I'd keep an eye on the airline's app. We learned through it before the Avalon one that our flights were delayed. Avalon was a bit later, but the airline one is best for up to date info.

I hate travel glitches.  My formula is to check my res once a month, once a week the final month and once a day the final day.  Always directly with the airline.  Keeps me out of trouble.

We had ours changed once by Air France, for our first south oh France cruise, we were supposed to be returning to Bristol (driving ourselves there) a few days before our landing city was changed to Birmingham, well they did both start with a B but that was the only resemblance nearly 100 miles apart and our car wasn’t there. At that time Scenic were absolutely excellent, I don’t think we were the only ones. Air France had decided to stop their direct flights with no consideration for their bookings. Let’s just say a few feathers were certainly ruffled. So yes I’d agree, a bit like measuring - check check and check again.

And of course I meant that I check my air res every day for the last week.  I've heard of airlines changing a departure or return city ... hard to fathom how they can mess with their pax.  I was a big Continental Air flyer, always on upgrades to first class.  Then United came along and the big merger was on.  Every time a flight was changed, even by a minute, I'd lose my seat.  Back then you had to CALL to get it back, can you imagine?  Actually, it wasn't too bad, they always answered the phone quickly.

My app has been updated today (or possibly yesterday) and all flights have been removed from it except for our flights. I wasn't too worried, and was pretty sure it would be sorted, but glad it has been.

Two weeks to go!
