shellgoodman Posted April 6 #1 Share Posted April 6 My sister and husband are on Celebrity Beyond right now and apparently there is some sort of technical issue right by Aruba. Captain request two tugboats. At first they were doing donuts and now they're at a full stop. Anyone on board have an idea what's going on? It's my sister and husband's 10 yr anniversary today and he's Dutch so getting on Aruba to have their celebration dinner is a big deal.
deepcman Posted April 6 #2 Share Posted April 6 The technical issue is called WIND. It's windy season there and the captain needs help docking without hitting the pier. Where you getting you info about a technical issue or are you just assuming based on marinetraffic.
Bead Pirate Posted April 6 #3 Share Posted April 6 Sitting in the martini bar right now (with about 600 others)… Bridge has made 3 announcements so far. There is indeed a technical issue (it has been identified and will be addressed as we overnight) yes, it is windy season (evidenced by the strong impact when the starboard tug got up to us) all of the impatient ones are being sent back this way as they head to the stairwells. The APP is in a constant update. will keep you advised if the facts as they are shared by the bridge. 2

Nothing to be alarmed about. "Swinging the ship" to calibrate the compass does not entail sailing in loops, it requires the ship to spin 360* while remaining as stationary as possible. The ship had an issue with one of the azipods/control systems that affected the redundancy of steering, so the ship would not be allowed to dock without tug assistance, so the ship was sailing in circles to kill time until the problem is fixed, or the tugs show up.
