Galveston drink package questions

Recommended Posts

We are leaving out of Galveston for the first time this July. All our other cruises have been from New Orleans, hour from our home. We always buy the drink package as it makes sense for us. "How much should I budget for our drinks for day one" is my issue. I don't even look at prices of drinks so I am clueless as to how much drinks are. Also I have read that TX charges are also charged. Any one know the prices of drinks on day one in Galveston? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Yeah the Texas menu is going to be limited BUT once the ship gets into international waters all the Texas drinks are put away and the entire alcohol selection gets immediately stocked.  So hang in there will around 5pm'ish and you are golden.

I think I was paying about $14.50 for fun ships after taxes and gratuities. I just have a couple of those and a couple of beers and a bottle of wine. Because I could easily run through $150-200 on Day 1 if I wasn't careful.

This is what I am scared of. Can we still bring two bottles of wine? I also purchased the Anniversary wine decorations, will the wine be delivered on day one to our room?

you can bring 1 bottle per person. I don’t know about that anniversary delivery. Also if you were looking at doing the steakhouse one night you can get a free bottle or discounted better bottle night 1.

The wine might not be delivered until the next day, due to the Texas laws.

Due to Carnival not wanting to comply with Texas laws. Technically it could be delivered once they hit international waters and it would be fine.

I pre-purchase a 4-pack of Parched Pig beer in April when we sailed on Carnival Jubilee.  They were in our room when we got there.  But with Carnival, you never know if that is always the case.

Is the casino DOU drinks package for drinks everywhere handled differently than Cheers when sailing out of Galveston?

Can you get drinks in the casino on day 1 under the DOU package?

Does the bottomless bubbles package out of Texas still include the Dr. Pepper?

If they have it on board it would be covered.  I seem to remember seeing Dr. Pepper on the Jubilee in a vlog so I'm pretty confident they have it.

Yes.  My experience was that it started to work around the time the casino opened.

Do you have the DOU in the Casino, or DOU Everywhere. I know that the Everywhere one starts once the casino opens. I would assume the only in Casino would work the same, but can't speak to personal experience with that one.

As a non-drinker, I never realized that drinks added up so quickly.  My wife might order 4 or 5 sparkling waters at $4 or $5 per day, and I might get a couple of cans of soda.  So I never even thought about the strange Texas rules.

And then it varies by cruise line. Like on Princess the way they handle it out of Galveston is they just don't start the drink package until after sail away. And we sailed away earlier...an hour earlier than scheduled. So it was like...eat lunch (in the dining room)...unpack....drink the carry-on bottle of wine during sail away...before you know it the drink package kicks in.

I guess I'll see next year how NCL handles it when I go on Prima out of Galveston.

I truncated your post. When you order a package to be delivered for a sailing from here in Galveston the Day One delivery is not an option on the drop-down menu.

Enjoy your vacation!

I read that the Cheers Package can only be used starting 6am the 2nd day in Norfolk also. Do you think that will change once they complete the terminal upgrade in Norfolk and reopen in February 2025?

I stand corrected. I'd be curious if the alcohol was in the delivery. Report back!

No.  I'm booking a March 2025 sailing out of Norfolk, and it states in the Cheers option that it doesn't start until day two.
