Looking for information on activities onboard the Navigator

Recommended Posts

We are trying to decide on our next cruise and are thinking of taking a step up to Regent, the Navigator in particularly.  We think we'd enjoy the much smaller number of passengers but wonder what activities and entertainment will be going on.  On previous cruises (Princess, Celebrity, Royal, NCL) we enjoy things such as trivia, game shows, comedians, magicians, and performers. I'd love to know what we could expect on a 7 day Caribbean cruise with Regent.  Thank you.

Honestly, I love Navigator, but I wouldn't sail her on a 7 night Caribbean unless it was a really good deal.  Navigator is very limited as to activities on board.  When we sailed on her it was a 40 night very port intensive itinerary.  She is almost like a "large yacht" in that she's very intimate, you get to know the crew (and they get to know you), you meet or talk to most everyone on board (at least on a long cruise), but really she's great for itinerary based cruises where you really just want to unwind quietly in the evenings preparing for another day ashore.  Sea days were "rejuvenating" days for us, to "catch our breath" after many days in port.

Navigator has only one specialty restaurant, Prime 7, along with Compass Rose and Sette Mari.  They do one show per night (which is fine, but not anywhere near the level of Royal Caribbean, etc. or even Regent's newer ships), and on our cruise some of the orchestra would come up to the lounge and play from around 10pm to midnight so you could dance or have music for late night drinks.  On sea days they had all the typical "games" that the other ship have.  And there was Trivia every day.  But that was it for entertainment.

When we go to the Caribbean we go for the "party."  That means large ships with many venues and lots of entertainment choices. But that's personal preference.

If you are just "trying Regent out" to see what it's like, then you will get the "Regent experience" in terms of service, food, and bars.   But be aware, Navigator is the "step child" of the fleet.  Totally different layout and much fewer "bells and whistles," especially when compared to the 3 new ships. And be aware of booking an aft cabin.  She does vibrate in the aft section!!!!!

Also keep in mind we all have our own personal opinions.  This is simply my opinion and will likely differ widely from others.  😎

Our first cruise was on Navigator, 13 years ago to Alaska.   We loved it.  It was small,  a little quiet for my taste, but we keep going back to Regent because the food and service are very good and I don’t need to show a badge to get a drink!

We haven’t done a cruise to the Caribbean,  because I just assume fly to one island and lay on a beach when we go there!   Keep in mind,  school holidays,  you could have some kids.   I don’t have a; issue with that, but plenty of people do!

We really enjoy the Navigator, have done 4 cruises on her and wouldn't hesitate to do her again for the right itinerary.

You might want to look at the number of sea days, since the Navigator is small as stated above, not alot of activities.  Enough to keep me happy, but you might want more.

What I consider the good things about Navigator:

  • Their lowest priced suites are larger than other Regent (except Voyager) ships
  • It is small enough you can get to your suite quickly
  • You get to know the crew and they get to know you.
  • While she only has one specialty restaurant (Prime 7) I consider this the best.

And then all the other great things that Regent offers.

Hello MJ this is Lady of the Nile. We hopefully will be on The Navigator in November from Barcelona to Miami. Lots of sea days. Do you know if they still do Brunch, we loved that on the Celebrity. We know Navigator is a smaller ship, that is fine. We are older now, so will be a different experience. Please write back if you can. I have yet to find the Roll Call for this voyage, although I have tried several times. Thanks. Arlette and Murray from U.K.

Hubby and I are booked on the Navigator in December. Regent roll calls on Cruise Critic are generally much less active as those for Celebrity. I have been on a few Celebrity TAs where there were hundreds of posts in the roll call. I created a roll call for our Navigator cruise back in May. So far, no one else has joined. If you do book the cruise, it may be up to you to create the roll call but you may not see much activity.

We have not been on the Navigator yet, but we are looking forward to it.

Lady of the Nile, we will be joining you on the Trans-Atlantic.  We have 90 days on the Navigator and have always enjoyed our sea days.  We are older too.

Hello, pleased that you will be joining us and a few others on the Navigator. Which hotel are you staying in pre-cruise, we are staying in Barcelona, originally called The Sofia, now its a Hyatt. Looking forward to it, still seems a long way off. Bye for now.

............... but champagne & caviar available for breakfast every Sunday 🥂

We just got off the Navigator (12 days Monte Carlo to Amsterdam.) Regent was also a step up for us from Oceania, where we have quite a bit of experience. We so enjoyed the experience we booked two more cruises with Regent - Barcelona to Montreal in August 2025 and Cape Town to Port Louis in Jan. 2026.

The ship reminded me of the R ships on Oceania. As others reported, we loved the intimate size and enjoyed getting to know the staff and other passengers. Although we were a port-intensive cruise, there were activities: dance lessons, trivia, stump the cruise director, Bingo on sea days, and a lovely higher-end wine tasting lunch that looked interesting (passengers with OBC reported that they enjoyed it very much). No Sunday brunch (which I heard about) but as previously posted caviar served at breakfast one morning.

We had wonderful music on the ship - better than many of our previous cruises - and the bars in the evening were filled until midnight with passengers enjoying the music. Not always the case to have passengers enjoying the ship late in the evening, but it was on this cruise.

Food was excellent. And although Prime is the only specialty restaurant that requires reservations, the Italian restaurant (Sette Mari), which does not require reservations, was very good as well. And we found the main dining room, Compass Rose to be much better than any main dining room on any cruise we previously took including Oceania, Celebrity, Princess, and Holland America.

Enjoy whatever you select. Aren't we all so lucky?

Catherine

Catherine, you have very accurately captured our same identical "Navigator experience" over many cruises/years.  Thanks!

Hello, hope you are all well. Thanks for the information about your Navigator experiences. Shame about not having a brunch, unfortunately neither of us would have the caviar. I am sure there will be other lovely things to eat and enjoy.

Keep cruising, whatever you are planning. Enjoy the Summer. UK has started a little late with a few sunny days in between the rain, hot today, well for us it is. Hope to speak to you all again soon. Regards - Arlette and Murray.
