Suite Concierge?

Recommended Posts

We are sailing for 10 days on the pearl in September in a suite. We got an email from the concierge offering to help us in advance of the cruise. We have never been on a suite on Norwegian. What kind of things should we book in advance with the concierge? And how far in advance?

We definitely want the thermal suite, but it’s not yet offered on the app. We will want spa treatments and specialty meals. Unsure if we should book those with the concierge before we board?

what does the concierge do for us on the ship? And is there also a Butler or is that the same person? Thank you!

The concierge and butler are different people. The following thread provides useful information on what a Concierge and Butler can do for you. While the thread addresses the Haven, you will have similar support from the Concierge and Butler. You will have a dedicated restaurant with enhanced menu for breakfast and lunch. You just won't have access to the Haven courtyard unless  you are booked in a Haven room.

You can use or not use the pre-cruise concierge. They actually can not do anything that you can't do yourself. Dining reservations open 130 prior to departure (4/29/24). If the dates and times you want are not available online, you have waited too long and they are sold out. In this case, it is better to wait until you embark and ask the ship's concierge to help you. The ship's concierge can oversell a restaurant to get you a table (but you need to do that as soon as you embark).

We actually don't use the pre-concierge. We prefer to build a rapport with the Concierge and Butler onboard as soon as embark. They will be the people supporting us on our cruise. The pre-concierge is calling a guest services call center. If they will try to help you and, like sold out restaurants, they just send an email to the ship which may/may not get acted on the week you cruise.

The best way to find out what the concierge can do for you is to give them a call and ask.  They can be very helpful especially for those new to NCL. They're nice people and the hold times are very short.

The Butler takes care of your needs inside your room. The Concierge takes care of your needs outside of your room. While much more personalized, the Concierge does for you what Guest Services does for those in steerage.

Don't overthink things...just follow the directions in the email or give them a call. Try not to create stress.

Lastly, don't call them the "Suite Concierge", just use "Concierge" instead. As there is only one, you don't need the descriptor to differentiate.

on our last cruise, (april 2024) among other things, on  the 1st day, the concierge came down to our cabin with a list of the specialty restaurants, and had us fill in the dates we wanted to attend for dinner. he also has a section of reserved seats at t he stardust theater, after a number of cruises in either the haven or a suite, this time we got a butler with an attitude. we always request the butler bring a pot of coffee, hot water for tea, and a tray of sweet rolls, muffins or croissants in the morning. this guy flat out refused and indicated " it's not my job" . if we wanted coffee, he pointed to the nesspresso machine, or told my wife to go to the buffet. we talked to the concierge, knowing that  this was a service the butler is supposed to provide and asked for another butler.  At the end of the cruise, he has both the haven and the regular suite people meet in a designated room, and escorts them off the ship, so there is no waiting in those horrendous lines. on some cruises, he has also been able to arrange transportation from the ship to either the airport or the hotel if we're staying over in the disembarkation city. we're at sea, so it's not like i need a concierge to get me theater tickets for a broadway show, and unless you really feel overly-entitled because you're staying  in a haven (thankfully we're  not) there isnt a great deal the concierge is needed for. he can take care of little annoyances you may find.

BTW, dont forget my  famous vegas handshake.  remember, he's there to help you with any problems that may arise/occur during your cruise

Did that work? It was certainly your best move!

valleyvillage, yes it worked and  the next day he was gone and we got another butler that was amazing. if  it were me, i'd have fired the 1st one. we've been on to many ncl cruises with a butler, so we know exactly what we can ask for, and never, ever ask for something outrageous.

gummie bears, peanut m&m's and the coffee/tea and muffins in the a.m.

if we have an exceptionally friendly, helpful butler, a couple of bottles of heineken and a few cans of coke

some times i will asl for cheese/crackers and deli meats for the afternoon snacks

I suspect the concierge discussed the contents of the butler's job description in detail with that butler.  BTW, I notice you mentioned he was replaced.  Did you see him again during the cruise?

That was ridiculous! I’ve mentioned before that I had a similar experience, where our butler told us he “may be” too busy with his larger suites to bring us breakfast and suggested we go to the dining room. We ignored him and continued to fill out the breakfast menu and place it on the door knob. He brought the breakfast.

Otherwise, he was a pretty hilarious and competent guy, so we stayed with him. But then, I’m easily amused.

The benefits of concierge are summarized well by complawyer. We have found the best benefit is the ability to get reservations booked/changed. For example, Cagney's showed 100% booked on the app but the concierge told us he could get any time / day we wanted.

What the heck did he think his job was??

Another thing the concierge staff can do is escorted you BACK to the ship and bypass the long line at a port stop to get back on the ship.
