Live from Utopia of Seas Inaugural Back to Back!

Recommended Posts

What a night! After PDCC we had a reservation for Chops. Our waiter told us that they had about 170 guests night 1 and were expecting about 250 guests tonight. It was crowded but still one of our favorites.

After we put our boys to bed (Nana was babysitting) my wife and I went out and spent some time a the schooner bar listening to the Louis Coupe (highly recommend). Plays all the hits. Then we went over to the Music Hall to see Phoenix (who I believe have been on Icon but are doing a few cruises on Utopia as a signature concert) also highly recommend!

We closed the night (10:30pm) with Aqua 80 too Utopia’s aqua show. Lots of dancing and diving to 80s music. It might be my favorite aqua show. Funny to see that the aqua theater was about 85% full.  Maybe that has to do with capacity or just the amount of stuff going on around the ship people have to make decisions on what they want to do and we certainly couldn’t do everything we wanted.

Tomorrow is Nassau. We plan to stay on the ship and enjoy the pools and the boys will definitely want to be in splash away bay. We have hibachi for dinner tomorrow so that will be fun and will probably casino tomorrow night.

I’ll post more in the AM.

Glad to hear that they didn't use Megan Trainwreck, I mean Trainor's, music!

Looking at the bar menus on the app.  Are there other drinks on the printed menus?  Will be disappointed if Bell & Barley doesn’t have any Dublin or other Iced Teas.  Those were my favorites on other Oasis class ships.

I just watched a video last night someone posted on YouTube of Aqua 80. While fun it looked to me like it missed that "Cirque du Soleil" theatrical feel that the other Oasis class aqua shows usually have. Seemed to me like they took the music and dance from the 80's party and implemented it into a dive show.

Thank you for the live.  We will be getting on when you get off.  How soon after you boarded did you make reservations for the Aqua 80 show?  I hope it is not full on our sailing as well as I definitely don't want to miss it.

Utopia is going to be a big hit with people wanting to combine Disney/Universal with a big new cruise ship. It's funny years ago Royal calibrated with Universal and were promoting it. I went on one of their promotional tours and my feedback was .....all you have are these older ship short sailings offered to combine. You are taking someone from a beautiful new Universal resort and then putting them on a danky old ship. Well 12 years later and here we are.

I went on a random 3 night on Harmony (making up the rest of the week of a 4 night charter) and commented that they should do shorties on the Oasis class ships more often to give people a taste and get them hooked. I was told back then (2019 ish) that it was too much work to turn around a ship this big that often...and here we are 😂

The party atmosphere, they have promoted lately, may end up being a turnoff for our family.

Please come back and give your thoughts on this after you sail! I'm curious what a seasoned family cruiser's take would be on this ship.

Do you know when pools typically close at night? That has been a disappointment on our last couple of cruises how early they all closed. Also if you're able would love to see cruise compasses. Thanks so much! Glad you all are having a great time!

I plan to do a LIVE from that cruise, so will provide that perspective.  Watch for the start of that LIVE in about 10 days.

I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos people are posting from this current sailing. I haven't seen anything more crazy than the normal sailings in the videos....but will find out soon enough for myself. The only thing that I saw that was geared real party like was their late night Frat party where they have beer bong set up with people playing....I can see things getting out of hand really quick in that frat party since it looked pretty hard core college like atmosphere to me from the video.

Was that set up in the pesky parrot?

It hasn't been crazy..I've scoped out all of the events on my way to the casino.  People are there but no one is crazy.  The frat party was comically tame.  I think the inaugural clientele has not come to party 😂

And the next sailing may not be much different..4 nighter and there are almost 500 B2B cruisers 🤯

Thanks for doing this Live!

We're on B2B in September so I'm very curious to hear about turnaround day.

Is there an Escape room and is it up and running?

Would also love to hear if you come upon any "quiet" spots to get some sun.  We spent the majority of our days on Oasis on the open, front portion of the Solarium.  Disappointed Utopia's is fully enclosed and hoping I can find another good spot that's not too crazy.

I will keep my eyes open for it...since someone has the live covered here I've been doing mine on another site 😂

Gotta keep up with the theme to match the frat party..

Thank you!  I had looked a few days ago (maybe longer than that) and couldn't find anything online.  Looks interesting.  Too bad our college student won't be on this trip with us.  The one on Oasis was really good, she did most of the harder stuff lol

Any noticeable changes in the casino?

The app has been a mess. Stopped by Bell & Barley here is the menu.

Doesn't smell like stale cigarette smoke yet is the biggest thing I noticed. They're using the same air filtering as Icon so I couldn't smell smoke unless I was on top of someone smoking.

There's only one entrance hallway from the Studio B side.  Still has the art gallery on the walls, though.

Same bar setup as Wonder with the 2 sided bar and a handful of video poker machines.  I don't visit land casinos but I sail on Royal often and I've never seen half of these slot games.

I seen videos of the casino. I also live near and frequent Hard Rock casino here in Tampa. Seems like they have a lot of the latest most popular land based slots...saw this change over the past year or so on pretty much all the big ships.
