Every sixth year you get an extra week to keep in sync with the calendar. Very wonderful.

Independent schools finished as early as the first week in July and some before that.
Thejuggler Posted July 29 #5 Share Posted July 29 The UK is made up of four countries, all have different summer holiday dates and even schools in the same country can have differing dates depending on the school operator etc! As a result summer holidays last 10-11 weeks from late June until early September, 16-18 age colleges may not return until mid September.

Scottish school holidays are usually earlier, but that isn't what you asked. In Scotland during summer they last around 6 weeks. School summer term ended in Scotland at the end of June with the new autumn term beginning mid-August. These are the same each year, so most Scots take their summer holidays in the month of July especially if they have school age children.

It depends on how old you are. If you're under 18, they're over in a flash. But if you're of an age when you have parental responsibilities, OMG they last forever.
Rare Harters Posted July 29 #8 Share Posted July 29 (edited) 6 hours ago, Essiesmom said: how long do they last Generally about six weeks. But the actual dates can vary. In my borough, most schools are in the first week of the holidays and return on 2/9. But "voluntary aided" schools (basically those with links to organised religions) and those which have Trust/Academy (independent from local council control) status can set their own dates.
