Wifi calling

Recommended Posts

Hi

Will wifi calling work on the ship if I purchase the Premium Wi-Fi Plan?

My cellular carrier is Verizon and I’d like to turn on my “wifi calling” feature so I can receive/make calls while on the ship, if possible.   Thanks!

it very rarely works. on my phone, my phone rings on incoming wifi calls but never connects causing the call to get dropped

text message using google messages with wifi calling enabled does work wonderfully

I believe Carnival blocks the ports used by wifi calling.

Correct, unfortunately Carnival is one of the only major cruise lines that blocks Wifi Calling across all internet plans. Their official page has been updated to reflect this "Cellular-network-dependent Wi-Fi calling is not supported." It's very frustrating.

Please elaborate.  What type of phone do you have?  I use wifi calling and texting on Royal, but have never been able to get it to work on Carnival.  If I could get texts, then I can live with that.  I've only heard of texts working with iphones and I have a Samsung Galaxy.

Carnival blocks standard WiFi calling that uses IP tunneling.

Other forms of WiFi calling likely work.

Just wanted to provide a data point: I've used Skype without issue, but I also have a subscription for Canada and the USA.

Has anyone tried to forward your cell phone number to a Google Voice number?  Will it allow you to receive calls while on board?  Just wondering….

Google Voice has always worked for me
