cruisingwiththekids Posted August 13 #1 Share Posted August 13 I am looking at a cruise on the Explorer of the Seas and have seen where the balconies on some decks seem more enclosed than on other decks. Has anyone been on the Explorer recently and stayed in a balcony on deck 7? Do you have pictures of the balcony? We have rooms on hold, but I'm wondering if we should move up a deck. The pictures I've seen of deck 6 look like an oval shape cut out of metal, while deck 8 look like they have an angled plexiglass to look through and are more open. rncruiser Posted August 13 #2 Share Posted August 13 It’s been many years since I have been on Explorer but if memory serves me right, it is only deck 6 that has the metal enclosures.

All balconies on all decks of Explorer are constructed the same. There is a metal encloser that encases the balconies. Google the ship name and click on images. This is the case with Explorer, Voyager, and Adventure. Navigator and Mariner were designed with the glass railings and dividers, eliminating the metal encasements. DHADEN Posted August 13 #4 Share Posted August 13 (edited) Here is a link to a website that will give you pictures and videos of cabins on "all" ships. Look up Cruise Line - Ship - then look symbols for pics and vids. https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/ships/ Edited August 13 by DHADEN
poocher Posted August 13 #5 Share Posted August 13 Balcony on Explorer is my least favorite. Tin can-ish feeling. Yes there is an angled glass railing but it’s tinted (and weathered) glass so you lose the beautiful color of the ocean. I love to sit out & watch the sea go by but not so much on Explorer. That having been said, I have a 10 day booked in a JS for next year 🤷♀️

It did have the angled plexiglass. The balcony has the metal walls on each side.
PhillyFan33579 Posted August 13 #7 Share Posted August 13 I was on Explorer a few months ago and don’t recall any issues with my balcony. I am not discounting the other comments in this thread, but I didn’t notice anything unique or different about my balcony on Explorer.
Havin'fun Posted August 13 #8 Share Posted August 13 (edited) every balcony I have had on Explorer has looked like this ( picture from Google) Edited August 13 by Havin'fun
poocher Posted August 13 #9 Share Posted August 13 Yup, that’s what mine looked like. Notice the tint on the plexiglass. On newer ships, the glass is clear.
The Sunset Glow Posted August 13 #10 Share Posted August 13 Hopefully I have this right - please correct me if I am wrong.....My understanding is that the blaconies on the first 3 Voyager class ships (Voyager/Explorer/ Adventure) are more enclosed than the other 2 ships in that class (Mariner/Navigator) because the balconies were built into the ship structure on the first three so there is more metal all around the balconies. For the last two ships in this class they changed to today's way of building the balconies which is to build them on the exterior of the ship structure with glass railings and dividers so they feel more open. But on Explorer/Voyager/Adventure deck 6 balconies are even more enclosed than the other decks because the front of the balcony is mostly solid metal with only a bit of railing on the top whereas the other decks are about half glass/half metal. See pic attached for differences.
doghog Posted August 13 #11 Share Posted August 13 FYI, to those thinking of booking a Deluxe Porthole Veranda (DPV) on Celebrity's E class ships, the baloneys are very similar to what @Havin'fun and @The Sunset Glow posted. We have no issues with them.

The balconies built on the outside of the hull are MUCH better.
Yorkshire Voyagers Posted August 13 #14 Share Posted August 13 Just stayed in a balcony on deck 9 - both sides are metal, but I personally like it, much more private
