Happy to hear the flught was uneventful,  train was a breeze and hotel let you check in early. Sounds like you're off to a great start.

Yesterday we explored the area around the hotel. The St. Lawrence Church is the only remnant of the medieval city of Rotterdam. Most of the city was destroyed by the Germans during WW II.There are canals but it isn’t as picturesque as Amsterdam.We had dinner at Little V a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant.  We had BÚN a traditional Vietnamese dish with rice noodles, spring rolls, vegetables, herbs & sauce and CƠM PHẦN a one pot meal with white rice. Sorry, no food porn, I was too busy eating.  We bought 2 bottles of delicious yet inexpensive wine at the grocery store and shared it in the lounge before bed.

This morning we took a tour called 10Tastes of Rotterdam through a company called with locals.  Anastasia was an excellent guide.  We learned a bit about the history of the city as we sampled the food .  Our first stop was for stroopwaffe.

So much better when prepared fresh instead of the packaged ones you get at the store.

Our next stop was the Markthal, built to resemble the train station that was bombed during the war.

 

Look at the beautiful ceiling.There are apartments above the market with windows facing inside and outside the building.

We had six different types of bitterbal at this stand.Sampled delicious cheeses.

Had some excellent fried cod

And even tasted several different flavors of natural peanut butter.

We learned about the modern architecture of the city.  This building is called The Pencil.The famous Cube Houses.

 

 

A view of the view of the Willemsbrug Bridge in built in 1878.Another building left standing after the war.  An original skyscraper, 8 stories.Looking forward to boarding the ship tomorrow.

We took an Uber from the hotel at 10:25, $15 to port.  We walked into our room at 11.  View from the Seaview pool.I hope they enforce this at the Seaview pool.

Sail-out photos of the old Rotterdam. There was a battle of toots between the old and new Rotterdams. I loved it! (The old one got the last word).

I enjoyed staying at Hotel New York, the old HAL headquarters bldg and a 2 block walk to port. 
 

Some photos of the hotel and the restaurant which had old ship models and an idea for use of HAL Tiles.
