If you have a morale issue with the visit, insights you not travel at all, even to many major US cities.

I do have moral issues with Royal resuming visits there, I don't expect everyone else to agree with me by any means but I think the point needs to be raised.

Also, in what major U.S. city are citizens being forcefully displaced by violence and murdered en masse? There's zero comparison here and it's a shameful comparison that minimizes the violence the people of Haiti are actively experiencing.

And not stopping there changes nothing; however it certainly seems you should stay away.

Royal taking their economic weight elsewhere changes nothing at all? Sure.

The only thing that it changes is a DRASTIC reduction in the quality of life to the residents of the peninsula.

Royal continues to make the lease payments to the government, whether they stop there or not.

morally reprehensible about a private company bringing folks to relax in "paradise" while the people of that "paradise" are being brutally displaced, attacked and murdered in the next major city over.

You can boycott/not sail Royal or buy shares in company and vote the board out.

I'm sure there's been a change for the local residents, also caused by the literal gang war their country is experiencing. FWIW, Royal makes enough in profit to support those folks if they really cared about them.

When Royal and other cruise lines stop calling on certain ports, it puts a lot of pressure on local governments to clean things up, we saw as much not too long ago in Ensanada.

Again, I expect to be in the minority opinion (especially on these boards) when I say it's disgusting that Royal is going back in the midst of what's happening there.

RC has been supporting them all this time by continuing to deliver critical supplies

That'd be great if true- do you have a source for that?

-A captain on Adventure said at a captain's corner back in March that they would continue to deliver fuel and supplies.

-My wife was on a cruise in June where they stopped for a couple hours at Labadee to unload supplies.

That's great to hear from Royal!

There was someone here on the RC boards that has been on a ship that stopped a few times at night to drop off supplies at Labadee, since they stopped sailing there. I wish I could remember who it was.  If I remember the ship was Adventure, but I’m going from memory.

Anyone else remember who it was? @orville99 looking in the search box I think it was you.

Don’t watch Fox News

Who are you trying to convince?

There's exactly zero cities in the US where what's happening in Haiti is happening in the US. Your belief otherwise is ignorant.

If Labadee is indeed safe as claimed, why did RCCL feel the need to post armed guards packing AKs (as per a few posters) even before the current shutdown?

Those guards have been there for the 10-12 years I have been stopping there.  Nothing new at all.

In 1995 I took a walk around Labadee and they had armed guards.  29 years ago.

Yes they were there but why especially with AKs that are designed for war fighting?

Well, probably because it’s the Haitian military doing the guarding. Makes perfect sense.

Have you ever been to the Eiffel Tower? You’d be shocked, it’s like a demilitarized zone. Same with a lot of airports in the world. Soldiers in public with automatic weapons is not at all odd.

Why have I seen military with AK type weapons at Penn Station in NewYork? At various places in Washington DC?

The answer is pretty obvious isn't it? Security is a concern. There is no point whitewashing or sugarcoating it.

Security is a concern a lot of places. When I visited Talin Estonia troops came marching through with automatic weapons.  Outside a ATM across from the cruise ports in Nassau Bahamas there was a guard with an automatic weapon. Nothing has ever happened at Labadee but security exists there is just like it exists at many cruise ports. Some people don’t like seeing security. It scares them. This year there have been a bunch of mass shootings in the US and 2 attempts against a presidential candidate by people with AK type weapons. Nothing can be ruled out even at my local supermarket.
