🐾🐾 Sea Dog is Live! Tiki, Tacos and Tequila: Navigator, October 18-25

Recommended Posts

Remember my Go pro Galveston fail?

my Go Pro’s suction cup failed and my Go Pro fell to its death.

To my surprise on Navigator the outer structure by the railing is not steel so my magnet mount would not work. So I have to improvise my gorilla pod on the railing to mount my Go pro for some sail aways.

A Pleasant Surprise

IMG_0398.thumb.jpeg.88895508941f3248a509dcae4cef0b2b.jpeg

A very nice surprise when we got back into our cabin from our excursion in Ensenada (more about that incredible experience later) where we were delivered a bottle of Champagne.

IMG_0400.thumb.jpeg.cf452a2b90109efe2a8ab3151cace3a2.jpeg

A box of fine chocolates and a plate of strawberry covered chocolates.

It had a card wishing us happy anniversary from Richard. I am assuming maybe loyalty ambassador but I want to find out and thank them for such a wonderful and gracious gift.

More later I need to recover from todays excursion.

The Ultimate Taste of Mexico

Nothing like  drinking  a margarita by 10:30am in the morning .Todays excursion and experience was one of the best Royal Caribbean excursions I have ever been on. I heard there wasn’t a lot to do in Ensenada and not a lot of beaches. We decided to do more of a cultural excursion so when I saw “Taste of Mexico & Margarita Madness” I thought hmmmm….this could be exciting. Think part cooking class and tasting.

It was the spice of life I was looking for . A authentic Mexican cooking class at La Dulce Vista, where you could can learn the art of creating local favorites, followed by a tour of Tequilera Doña Engracia and tequila.

IMG_0345.thumb.jpeg.332818592cfad9efcd0393080cbd2101.jpeg

We boarded a bus and drove through the down town area and headed to a quaint area known as La Dulce Vista.

IMG_0349.thumb.jpeg.00f6c6792af5fd2b97afebde3abd8003.jpeg

We met a chef you taught us the secrets and tips of creating Mexican favorites such as Molcajete salsa, Guacamole, a Chicken Enchilada and Tostada.

IMG_0350.thumb.jpeg.f655c9c609e8fb5f9f81b3fd32b99e1f.jpeg

We were served unlimited Margaritas that were so smooth with a Reposado Tequila that did not have the acidity of a normal Margarita because it was made from fresh squeezed lime juice and some simple syrup.

The guacamole making was fun and I got volunteered to muddle some peppers. The guacamole was incredible.

IMG_0365.thumb.jpeg.c040618110e7a322cbe9885e50c4db45.jpeg

A chicken enchilada was next with a fresh and hot corn tortilla

IMG_0368.thumb.jpeg.3b5bf05da36d8bd904c142e9407f8eb4.jpeg

And finally a tostada which was so good.

I may have to open a Mexican restaurant as the food I made today was better than most things I eat at a Mexican restaurant.

Next was a Mezcal tasting. We learned about how Mezcal is made and sampled some different flavors.

IMG_0371.thumb.jpeg.8ef07c9228549c33552bcc1299e37429.jpeg

Along with the Mezcal tasting we ate a fried grasshopper ( little thing on left) that had been roasted in bacon fat, then baked. Crunchy and a little weird but I was ok with it. I should make a bunch and hand them out at Halloween.

IMG_0375.thumb.jpeg.7f86727e879a910488a8f53c7162e5d5.jpeg

The Mezcals we tasted included a

Blanco

Strawberry

Tamarindo

Passion Fruit

IMG_0373.thumb.jpeg.82d2148a1bdd4682e5d3822ed280da13.jpeg

And a wild looking Scorpion infused mezcal which I bought a small bottle of. It was actually pretty good.

Feeling pretty good by now we boarded up and head back into for the tequila tasting.

IMG_0377.thumb.jpeg.7300f796828aae5c6a2dc7a8e77ea4d7.jpeg

Our guide showed us how tequila is made and the emphasis that it must be made of 100% blue agave. We tried a total of 7 tequilas.

IMG_0392.thumb.jpeg.09d6e7459c98c06720618dbbf75dcbb1.jpeg

Blanco

Reposada

Anejo

Peach tequila

Cinnamon tequila

IMG_0394.thumb.jpeg.43e6188ed0872822912491fc4bf3aa50.jpeg

And a coffee and almond tequila which was incredible as an after dinner dessert drink so I bought a bottle.

IMG_0395.thumb.jpeg.540f6f04a7e01e7796f0ba4c088bcbf1.jpeg

We also tasted some Moonshine tequila that had 80% ABV. Needless to say I had a good and happy buzz.

With  every taste we did we were led in a toast in Spanish.  It sure I improved my language skills by slurring Spanish but I tried my best.

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this excursion. We had the best time and really appreciated what Mexico has to offer.

If I ever go mountain climbing, I’ll make sure to bring you with me.  You have it all covered, where as I still trust the suction cup. 😉

We will see if the camera is still there when I get back from dinner before you trust me. 😉

Is the Diamond lounge the same as the suite lounge?

No.  the Diamond Lounge is on deck 5 Forward and is for Diamond, Diamond +, and Pinnacle guest.

The Suite Lounge is on Deck 14 and is for guest sailing in a Grand Suite or higher or Pinnacle guest.

I see someone sampled one before you could take the picture.  Hmmmm  I wonder who that could have been.

That would have been my wife Linda! She’s never met a chocolate covered strawberry she didn’t like.😁

I bet using Reposado instead of Blanco had a lot to do with that as well.  I always try and get my margarita's made with Reposado.  If I am sipping then Anajo is the only way to go.

Dinner In The MDR

IMG_0411.thumb.jpeg.a035ac92db30e45f47c864486d6c417b.jpeg

Got a wonderful window side table.

It was Mexican night but after our incredible cooking class I did not have faith the Mexican food would be as good as we had today.

So instead I had:

IMG_0413.thumb.jpeg.95b2757d38421c303c33ba3e367e8ec3.jpeg

The best rolls ever. Salted Cheese Rolls

IMG_0409.thumb.jpeg.6b20540144d1d7b1dfbcfc71e29d3c50.jpeg

Caesar Salad

IMG_0408.thumb.jpeg.80f23aec29eba98c55304a00bec089c7.jpeg

My usual Escargot

IMG_0410.thumb.jpeg.a106b13d52ab54e2c3db92fa97072d8f.jpeg

Our waiter Jason from South Africa recommended the Salmon. It was fantastic.

For dessert Coconut Cake with a double espresso to wake me up for our next foray into cocktails.

IMG_0412.thumb.jpeg.24230f9497a3fbc0efbc9b281816317e.jpeg

Very impressed either way the food quality in the MDR.
