terry2be Posted March 5, 2008 #301 Share Posted March 5, 2008 4/26-27 pre-cruise; bid $110 Resort San Juan- accepted for the Intercontinental. We think we got a great deal- website has $289 for that night.
IHATESNOW Posted March 5, 2008 #302 Share Posted March 5, 2008 I've got the same issue - 4 of us in the one room too. I've got different dates than you & I've been looking at Hotwire too. There's a resort listed there but I'm afraid it's the El San Juan. How did you know it's Inter on Hotwire? What makes they're listing different from the El San Juan? I am not 100% sure but based on what I've seen for Hotwire on betterbidding.com, I am at least 95%.
BabyCruiser_2007 Posted March 7, 2008 #303 Share Posted March 7, 2008 After reading all the posts, I decided to go with Hotwire. Here are my results... I got the Caribe Hilton for $132 (with taxes/fees total $150) for one day on April 4th. Would have much rather paid $100 for any hotel but I'm new to this so I took their offer on the second try. syndyj Posted March 19, 2008 #306 Share Posted March 19, 2008 got Marriott Stellaris Resort and Casino for $115 a night precruise and postcruise in October through Priceline... Marsha What star category did you bid and is the $115.00 inclusive of taxes?
toonjie Posted March 19, 2008 #307 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Bid resort only to get the Marriott Stellaris. All the possible resorts are nice so there are no worries, but if you start messing with 3 stars, you could get some not-so-nice properties. (Remember Puerto Rico is a free bidding zone, so just keep adding areas and you can re-bid the same day. ie., Priceline only has resorts in San Juan, so add Ponce and re-bid, etc.)
gram1554 Posted March 19, 2008 #308 Share Posted March 19, 2008 I am looking for something for 10/17/08 & 10/18/08. Has anyone had any luck for this time. I do have a back up if needed.
waterbugohio Posted March 19, 2008 #309 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Great thread. I am just starting to use priceline. This thread really helps. We need one pre cruise night 11/14/08. I bid three times this week in resort only for $85 I assumed this was to low, but thought I would give it a try. I am going to book the Comfort Inn (I can get it free with my points) as a back up and then just keep trying for a couple of months. I think I may start trying $100-110. Terry, is your price of $110 including taxes or is that your bid??
marshabear Posted March 20, 2008 #310 Share Posted March 20, 2008 I had been bidding $100 but never got accepted...decided to try $115 and got accepted right away!! :) we will be staying Oct 11th (precruise) and Oct 19th (postcruise)... that price did not include taxes...with taxes and fees was $136...still a great deal!! :) Marsha
piper Posted March 20, 2008 #311 Share Posted March 20, 2008 I tried bidding $110 for "resorts" in the San Juan area for 4/11/08, but the bid was rejected. Is the Dorado area a good area?
Soxfan4ever Posted March 23, 2008 #312 Share Posted March 23, 2008 I have never used Priceline/ Hotwire before, and wondered if it's ever too early (or late!) to start the process. My wife & I have a few days in San Juan before our cruise in January '09, and would love to consider these sites as options. Thanks for responding! waterbugohio Posted March 24, 2008 #313 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Soxfan, From what I have researched, it is never to early. I have only used priceline a couple of times and it was always last minute. But I am bidding now on November of this year. I have another hotel reserved as a back up and will continue to bid till I get something or until we leave home. From the way this thread sounds I should be able to get something for less than $150 which is what my backup hotel sells for and what I am willing to bid, just not yet!! It is really an easy site to use, just start low once or twice till you get the feel for it and than you will understand the process.
toonjie Posted March 24, 2008 #314 Share Posted March 24, 2008 I tried bidding $110 for "resorts" in the San Juan area for 4/11/08, but the bid was rejected. Is the Dorado area a good area? Priceline has no resorts in any other area besides San Juan, so you can up your bid and add Dorado with no worries. Just keep doing that process using up all the different areas or until your bid is accepted.
piper Posted March 24, 2008 #315 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Gotcha! Thanks for the tip. My hubby was on my case to make a reservation, so I made one at the Marriott - the lowest rate I could get was $267/night + all of the taxes and resort fees which add up to 26%!!!! That puts the room <$300/night!! I guess I could keep trying to use Priceline and then cancel our original reservation? Same thing with our post-cruise stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan - the rate is tolerable, but the taxes and fees put the rate way more than I want to spend for a night that I'm not even going to be in the room very much..... Yes, keep your reservation and see what happens with Priceline and then cancel. The Marriott is a great hotel and it is a very common one that comes up on Priceline. All the Priceline resorts are nice so there is no worry.
piper Posted March 24, 2008 #317 Share Posted March 24, 2008 It worked! I just bid $175 for the resort in San Juan and got the Marriott - same place I reserved at $267/night! Now I'm brave! I might try to get a better rate for the Sheraton Old San Juan if I can figure that one out.
IHATESNOW Posted March 24, 2008 #318 Share Posted March 24, 2008 This may be already addressed here but I didn't want to read backwards through the whole string so.............. People need to keep in mind that the Priceline rooms do not guarantee occupancy for more than two people. It does not mean that you can't get a room for more but be prepared. I know some stories where people didn't fully realize this and they got stuck. Now with Hotwire you can guarantee. You will likely pay a few $ more but still get a good deal and piece of mind. If you're only looking for two people then I'd definitley start with Priceline though. I am relatively new to Hotwire but I recently got great deals for both Boston and Orlando. Far less than the going rate, especially for Boston. betterbidding is an indispensible site for using either travel company. It takes the mystery out of the bidding process. piper Posted March 24, 2008 #319 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Thanks Ihatesnow (by the way, I LOVE snow but never get to see it!). I did not know that about Priceline. Fortunately, there are only 2 of us.

waterbugohio Posted March 25, 2008 #321 Share Posted March 25, 2008 I have been bidding $110 for a resort in San Juan. Tried this the last 4 nights and was turned down every time. Don't know if I should wait and keep trying or if I should up my bid. This is for Nov. 14-15. May have to try $115 a couple of times, just because I am getting antsy. Go to $115, $120 tops and then just be patient and keep trying if it's not accepted. That should be a slow time so you should definitely get it eventually. aainsjen Posted March 27, 2008 #325 Share Posted March 27, 2008 I guess I need some help. I finally put in my bid and I was rejected. So I thought I could just change my price and re-submit but it wants me to make changes as to either where I'd stay or the resort star. I dont want to change any of that, just the price. Now what do I do?
