National Whiner's Day - Let's Talk NCL

Laurel, Do you need any new best friends? I love your cruising style and especially the frequency to which you cruise.

My new whine for today... I want to cruise as much as Flying Pirate and always in a suite just like her.

That is an east whine to cure - get out your credit card and move into an Airstream:D :D

Y'all need to chill! :) It was *my* whine and I am entitled to it. :p

you do have a right, but your whine makes no sense. If cruiselines included meals in the specialty restaurants in their price they would no longer be speicalty restaurants plus everyone, whether they wanted to take advantage of them or not would have to pay for them. This would be like saying, a certain amount of booze should be included. Well, some people do not drink but they would have to pay for my habits. It these were the policies, cruising would truely be all inclusive and the price would sky rocket. NMnita

NMnita,

Now wait a minute here, if someone, anyone wants to help pay for my booze habit, don’t you be going around telling them that they shouldn’t! I will graciously accept help from any and all willing cruisers. :D :D

Have a great holiday!

I would like to see a "jeans only" dining room. No jeans, no entry. That should put an end to the "can I wear jeans" threads.

On the wishful thinking side....I've wondered why the cruise lines can't go into the land based hotel business and operate their own hotels in the busy port cities: Miami, New York, Seattle etc. They are already in the hotel business, it shouldn't be that much of an adjustment.

Neither did the posts about ports in the midwestern states - nor a few other posts - so why pick on this poster??? I do believe he was trying to be amusing and maybe taken a little too seriously?? Just MHO

I would like to be able to bring my own alcohol - but we know that's not happening either ;)

Actually, some of them did! The Wyndham Resort Cable Beach in Nassau started life as Carnival's Crystal Palace. Inside it looked just like a Carnival ship, too. I haven't seen it since its latest refurb but its design used to be just as whimsical as any Joe Farkus design.

you are right about the posts but that was meant to be cute, not taken seriously. As for the booze, we all would like to see the booze rules changed. No, he wasn't trying to be amusing in my opinion. If he was none of us would have mentioned it again. NMnita

That's true....while in Nasaau many years ago, we took a taxi to the Crystal Palace. It was exactly like a Carnival ship, all neon and dayglo.

But my idea is to have an "NCL hotel" in departure port cities.

Having to weave through the maze of selecting a downtown Seattle hotel is what brings this hopeful thought to the surface.

Yes, now that's a solution. I can just see it now, traveling in the Airstream port to port catching the next ship. We can start in N.Y. (can't you just see us driving in Manhattan and parking it in the garage for a week?), then on down the east coast, then Miami, then New Orleans.... Yup, that's a great idea but these two kids, ages 14 and 9 that are sitting along side me right now need to grow up quick first. But then again, I guess I could home school them while driving to the next port.

I've got the cure for the Seattle hotel... Homewood Suites. It's not right downtown but is a great hotel, just off the "free bus" zone area. We took a short ride on a pay bus just outside the hotel, then got off and we were in the free area. It was a clean hotel, very accomodating, reasonably priced. There were six of us in a suite (2 bedroom, one bath, kitchen) and it was $139.00 which included breakfast each day. There were a couple of good restaurants in the area too which we walked to.

The home schooling should work fine. Just imagine how much more interesting US history classes would be as you could stop at the historical sites on your way to the next port :D ! For math classes, they could work on their math facts to calculate MPG and remaining distance to the next port. For science classes, you could do a wonderful job of teaching marine biology as you snorkeled and learned the different varieties of fish. I think I like this idea!

The only problem, for me at least, is that my kids are now in college and I think getting college credit might be a little difficult, and then, how would I be able to afford cruise fees if I wasn't working  ?

We stayed at Summerfield Suites, just up the hill from shopping and the convention center. It was ideal for one night, and very reasonable. I think I paid about $100 for a one bedroom with a balcony and a gorgeous view of the Space Needle. It was a Wyndham but now it's a Hyatt property so I don't know if that affects the pricing. It's a converted apartment building and has all the comforts of home.

My favorite, if you want a romantic splurge, is Hotel Sorrento. Fabulous boutique hotel above the city, with a great bar and world-renown restaurant (The Hunt Club). They have a cruiser's package and will take you to the port in a town car. Their beds are to die for.

you are right, but I think there are just too many latitude members now to do what they used to do. You should try a Celebrity party: they are worse. NMNita

They should give discounts to latitude members. Or at least a fruit basket in your cabin to welcome you back. Cheapskates!!!

The best Latitudes party I had was on the POH. You had a choice of red, white, margarita, or rum punch. Shrimp cocktail, caviar, and other little delicious treats kept coming by. I probably tuned out the people talking while I was eating and drinking.

Actually we have only been to one bad one and that was on the Sun last spring. They held it in the showroom mind you. They did offer about anything to drink you wanted put pushed the Champange and rum punch. the snacks were the usual, shrip, little pieces of lox, cucumbers with something on top, etc. The same ole same ole. The capt was there and the prize give aways were numoreous, but it was must being in the show room that drove me nuts, plus it was held at about 11am, if I remember right. On the Jewel they devided us into 3 groups, 3 different days. That was a bit better. Now, the worst one was Celebrity. OMG, I don't know why they bothered. It would be nice if we got a fruit basket or something. That was one nice touch with HAL. They actually had a fruit basket in every cabin upon arrival and kept replenishing it. I had one problem, I kept waiting for the pear to get ripe, finally after 8 days it did and I had planned to eat it the next day. Guess what? 2 days or actually 1, before the end of the cruise the cabin steward removes the fruit basket. After wandering around on morning 9 allowing him time to clean the cabin we went back and I had planned on eating that beautiful pear. it was not to be. NMnita

Here's my whine -- the casinos should treat me with more respect.......like letting me win big and then MAKING me leave with the winnings. I think it's disrepectful to allow me to donate all my prior winnings back to them only to leave late at night flat broke! But hey, thanks for the free cocktails! :)

I would like NCL to treat all their customers the same, irrespective of where they live - same pricing (or as close as possible due to exchange rates), same chances of upsells (not available to us here in the UK), same conditions on deposits (here in the UK our deposits are non-refundable the second they are paid) - you get the drift :D

Hey, they could build one in Las Vegas to go along with all those other themes hotels. It could be in the shape of a ship, with lady luck painted on it's bow, or is that its stern? It could be built in a moat and the water could be made to stream past the bottom of the ship. The building could constantly vibrate as if it was traveling in the ocean.
