Miami hotels

Jay and Claudia, which would you recommend - JW Marriott on Brickell or the Courtyard by Marriott? Thanks for any advice.:)

Personally we prefer the JW Marriott over the Courtyard however that's not to say that the Courtyard is not a good hotel. The JW Marriott is more pricey thus a bit more lavish than the Courtyard. They both are not too far from the cruise line terminal. More importantly, how many nights do you plan on staying there pre/post cruise? If it's just one night and you are not that concerned with having the extra amenities of a 4 star hotel versus that of a 3 star than the Courtyard will do you just fine. However if you do enjoy those finer things a 4 star hotel has to offer than most definitely go with the JW Marriott...

I hope this helps...

Jay

Flting in the night before our cruise, and was wondering are there any recommended hotels near port of miami that offer shuttle service ( from airport & to sea port)? Thanks

Some offer shuttle service but I don't think any that are near the port offer a free shuttle.

It is only a cheap cab ride to the port from downtown Miami.

I am checking into that myself. Most of those by the port do not do shuttle service from the airport. Taxi could be around $25 they say. The Marriott at Biscayne Bay has a special that includes transfer to the port. Also includes cocktails and breakfast. Fairfield Inn by Marriott Miami Airport West Doral Area has a free airport and a flat fee to the port. $18 for a double bed and $14 for a single. (like a king bed) Most hotels close to the port seem to be a taxi ride of around $5 - $8. I think there will be trade offs of airport shuttle vs taxi fee, cost of hotel, cost to port, amenities nearby etc.

So far good hotel pricing I have found off; www. traveling.com and http://www.hotelsanddeals.com. (the last seemed to have a little bit better pricing.) But these sites are like anything with discounts, only so may at that pricing available. If you want a certain hotel, they may not have the room type you want for the date. I had heard the Holiday Inn (Miami Springs?) is now offering both free airport and port shuttles. The reviews off tripadvisor.com were very mixed. Some were that it was ok for a night, others that it wasn't very well maintained. I had also seen at the Travel Inn Civic Center, Miami Airport, free airport and port shuttle. (http://www.daysinnnciviccenter.com) Don't know anything about it though. Has anyone heard/seen anything about it?

I know if you use lastminutetravel.. you can get the interContintenal but they just raised their prices...I'm in the process of booking the Holiday Inn by the port and i just found a website that is the cheapest and i believe it's tax included.. the only downside is ..that they charge your creditcard now...but it's a great price let me know if you're intrested?

Ended up with Holiday Inn at the port of Miami $160.00 a night. Bayside shops etc is right there and was told when making our reservation that the taxi ride to the port is under 10$. We will just get the carnival shuttle back after the cruise since we have a 12:10 flight.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just booked on easyclick today and got the IC for $143 and change. I'm happy!!! Never been there but the reviews have perked my interest. Not happy about paying $10.95 for internet access or $34 for overnight valet parking but I guess that's the norm in the downtown Miami area. Happy Sailing!

My price included all taxes - total price. The room rate was $126.73. It was the same on LastMinuteTravel. Every booking is different based upon the time of yr and availability. Some will find their date is not open for deals at all. I'm happy we snagged one now even tho we aren't going until Oct. Happy Sailing!

We are sailing on the Carnival Victory on 11/18/07, but are flying in on the 17th and will be spending the night. Does anyone have recommendations for a hotel in MIA that isn't too far from the port? Just looking for something clean, reasonable and with a pool - doesn't need to be a 5 star or anything - but nothing scary/dirty either. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Well while I was waiting to see if anyone had any suggestions I decided to try Priceline which I had never used before. I ended up in the Hyatt in downtown Miami for 117.00. Not as good as some others who have posted on here who said they booked the Hyatt for $95 a night - but I don't think $117 is bad for a 4 star hotel the week before Thanksgiving. I would definitely recommend Priceline to others who are looking for a good deal on a hotel - just remember to use the "name your price" feature!

Bequia, Need some more advise I went through your list this morning and have put 3 different hotels on a hold, They are as follows: Hyatt Regency, Eden Roc, and the Sonesta hotel&suites, Which of the three would be your first choice. Thanking you in advance.

Those three hotels are each located in different areas. The Hyatt would be my last choice. Eden Roc has been remodeled and its on the Beach but not very close to the port. The Sonesta is really nice and located in the Grove and within walking distance to a lot of cool places to eat and drink. I would choose the Sonesta for its close proximity to the port and the things to do and in my opinion is the nicest.

yes, The Sonesta is in a fun area. Coconut Grove is actually in the process of being revitalized so lots of good things are heppening and its very lively with live music, restaurants, shops and bars.

You can go shopping in Cocowalk, there is a Gap and a few other stores like the Black/White Market there is also a cute bathing suit store in the corner of Grand Avenue and McFarlane Rd. Also down Grand Ave there is another area with some more shops including a Bennaton and The Improv is there to catcha good comedy show. Also in that same mall is a club called Oxygen which gets good. If you want to do more shopping with more mainstream stores you can head over to bayside or Village of Merrick park. Both equal in distance, but I would prefer Merrick Park. its so much nicer and its newer. Its an outdoor mall. I bring my dog there all the time for outings and there are good restaurants there too.
