Infinity vs Mercury

If itineraries (in your eyes) were equal, and price varied about $200 per person which ship would you cruise and why? Infinity would be cheaper by $400 total for a balcony.

Having a bugger of a time deciding on who to sail!

we have sailed both to alaska - infinity out of vancouver in august '03, mercury out of seattle in august '05 (and we leave on mercury from vancouver next friday) - Under the current configurations, we would choose Mercury, because Skagway is our favorite port of the big three Alaska ports, and Infinity dropped it from its itinerary last we looked. We also prefer Mercury for the T-pool (the one on the M-class ships is free but not the same, it's just a big warm indoor swimming pool, not the supercharged hot tub that Mercury and Galaxy still have) and the decor -- TR

I sailed on Mercury once and the M-class 3 times. I'd choose Infinity, we just love those ships. Best way I can sum it up...first time on the M-class, they were pretty new...one night the CD was saying how when they wanted to build a new series of ships, they polled many thousands of passengers and asked them what features they would like - the result was the M-class.

I have no quibble with their selection.

Hi There, The Infinity & Mercury are both wonderful ships. The Mercury is smaller & older but, same great service & food etc. The Infinity is larger and has a much better Aqua Spa, Great food in Aqua Spa for breakfast & lunch. Bigger Martini bar etc. I would go with the Infinity because she was the first X ship I sailed on and she will always be MY first LOVE! Have a great cruise.

You're really comparing apples to oranges. They are each in a different class of ships.

We enjoy both, for different reasons.

Infinity - Spa Cafe, Specialty Restaurant, great Martini Bar, Aft cabins.

Mercury - Elegant intimacy, T-Pool, smaller size ship, but still has the spaciousness.

Even though Infinity does has a tendency for Pod issues, it's a wonderful ship.

But Mercury has a great feel to it...

Hard decision.

Hi, I have also sailed Mercury 3 times. I have not sailed

Infinity but have been on other M-class ships.

Mercury is one of my favorite ships:) and I would sail

her again in a heartbeat.

I agree with Karyn. It is comparing apples to oranges.

2 different class of ships, different sizes, etc.

Now, if it was the same price I would probably try Infinity,

just to get the chance to sail her for the first time.

In my opinion you can't go wrong either way.

Enjoy your cruise, whichever ship you pick:)

Just back from the Infinity and very, very happy with it.

No pod problems.

Not sure of Mercury schedule - but Infinity seemed to stay in ports longer than other ships - so no rushing.

I also really enjoyed ISP/Hoonah - husband had a ball fishing halibut, and I enjoyed the relaxed flavour, after busy Ketchikan and Juneau. It was great talking to locals, watching the eagles, and just wandering the beach - everyone from the ship seemed very relaxed there - and fun to see kids (and big adult kids) being kids, skipping stones in the ocean.

I'm sure you'll be happy whatever you choose.

I loved Infinity and she is a beautiful ship. I would look forward to cruising aboard again.

Sailed Mercury in 10/05 and have no interest in doing do again. She was in disrepair, IMO, and staff was not up to par except in the main dining room. Our cabin badly needed an update, especially the bathroom. Ship often felt crowded and staff appeared overworked. Could be the class of ship as Century felt the same way, though looked a 100x better after her refurb.

Also, the Aqua Spa and specialty restaurant, along with a larger gym would make the decision easy.

Hey there,,

weve been on both ships.. we love them both , but if i had to chose i would chose the infinity..

the layout is easier..the rooms were nicer,, we only had an inside but it was great.. we sailed mercury in 2003 so im sure theres been some changes, the casino was bigger on infinity...

and i loved the nightclub, and the show place, it seemed nicer on infinity...

which ever you chose. you will love celebrity no one beats their service..

imo

take care

Sounds like we could have been on the same sailing in Oct 2005! It was my least favorite X cruise although I will try her again for the New Zealand to Honolulu cruise next spring.

I love the spacious feel of the M class ships, from the glass elevator to the Martini Bar. They feel less crowded and offer more options, like the specialty restaurants, the Aqua Spa Cafe and the conservatory. And it may have something to do with being on the Infinity for my first cruise.

My advice to the OP is that no matter which one you choose now, make sure you try the other one later.

I have never been on Mercury, but Infinity is a wonderful ship. My family, all nine of us, cruised the Panama Canal in March and we really enjoyed Infinity. You asked your question in such a way as to suggest that either itinerary is acceptable, but you'll save $400 for the two of you with Infinity. I think you've answered your own question. Sail aboard Infinity and use the $400 to enjoy your trip that much more.

I would go with whichever ship has the lower fare.

These two ships really are about equal (and yes, I have been on both). The basic difference, from a passenger's perspective, is that MV Mercury has one additional night club (located directly above the main dining room on Deck Seven) while GTS Infinity has a specialty restaurant (where I probably would not bother to dine unless my dinner table decided to do so as a group or I wanted to take somebody there for a special event).

We have sailed both ships and loved both of them. If it were a choice of same cruise different ship I would probably select Infinity. That being said I have a cruise booked on Mercury to Hawaii in 2009 and two cruises booked on M-Class ships.

One thing that Mercury is currently lacking is a specialty restaurant. I understand that they will be adding one some time in the future.

We normally travel in Royal Suites and I would have to say the Royal on the Mercury is better laid out for our tastes but lack the large deck one has on the M-Class.
