Tatka Posted May 6, 2008 #226 Share Posted May 6, 2008 Ship models aren't sold in regular stores.. Only in ship stores. You can't even request one from cruise line. If you missed buying it from the ship store your best bet is ebay. That's where we bought majority of the ships we haven't sailed on. Sometimes, very rare on ebay you can find a model not from ship store.. We have a couple (HAL Zuiderdam - made in Delft, and NCL Sun, made in Brazil). Tatka Posted May 7, 2008 #229 Share Posted May 7, 2008 Makes a good case for going to the ship's store at your first opportunity to be assured of finding a model!Gordon Yes.. even then it's not always available. On our very last cruise on NCL Spirit we were told that NCL doesn't supply Spirit with this model anymore. My husband was sooooo disappointed. Luckily next day when he was walking around the ship he saw it on one of the displays (with the box). He asked if he could buy it and DOT IT!!! He was happy as a clam! During couple of cruises we bought more than one copy so we could sell it on ebay. I wouldn't recommend it as an "income".. we made some money, but not a lot. dagama10 Posted May 8, 2008 #230 Share Posted May 8, 2008 Looking for a model of RCCI - Monarch of the Seas - any ideas where to find an inexpensive one? Would you settle for an old-style ceramic model of Monarch's sister ship, Sovreign Of The Seas? I got it off of Ebay and used it as a substitute for another sister ship Majesty Of The Seas (until I got a resin Majesty also from Ebay). I was just on the Carnival Miracle and they had a mountain of models the first night, so I didn't buy one. When I went back on day 5, they had 3 left. Fortunately, I got one of those.
Rockee4055 Posted May 14, 2008 #232 Share Posted May 14, 2008 I buy a model of each ship I'm on but they keep disappearing. It took me several years to find out the kids were eating them. I decided to stop buying those chocolate Carnival ships!!!!! LOL Just kidding.....I had to do it. Well it did happen on the first one....I don't know what ever made me think a chocolate ship would last for any length of time.

vowsatsea Posted June 14, 2008 #235 Share Posted June 14, 2008 Just came back from our Caribbean Princess cruise. I can't believe how tiny the ship model is. My Carnival Miracle one is towering over it. The layout on the Lido deck doesn't even look right...but oh well, I wanted a model for each ship. letst Posted June 22, 2008 #239 Share Posted June 22, 2008 I've been collecting the models too. Like rsjc, I'm missing a couple of the early cruise ships that probably didn't even have models at that time. If any one needs a model of RCCL's Splendour of the Seas or Princess's Coral Princess, I have one of each that I would sell for the original purchase price. Hi there Raven We going on the Splendour end of July, would like to know what you want for your model. I stay in South Africa, let me know what you want and i can work out the postage etc and see if it's worthwile because i have no idea what they cost on board and will contact you when i get back if you give me your email. Thanks, Bruce:)
ksmaage Posted June 30, 2008 #240 Share Posted June 30, 2008 One of the best ways to get ships you missed is to go the the Role Call board her at CC. Find the thread for the ship you want and ask someone to get you one. I was able to complete my collection doing this. Trying to do it on Ebay is tough because you need to check about every day. Plus they go for more on Ebay. I saw a Majesty of the Seas go for $50 plus shipping.

I wouldn't recommend to bid many times, as you are rising the price each time. :)
Rare Smokeyham Posted July 1, 2008 #242 Share Posted July 1, 2008 My husband and I went on our first cruise last year on the Grandeur of the Seas sadly he did not get a model of that cruise ship can anyone tell me where I can get a model of that ship? I called RC and they gave me an 800 number for the company that sells them on the ship but they said the only place to buy them is on the ship you are on. You might try the roll call for an upcoming cruise and see if anyone will buy you a model while they are on board.

I was not referring to bidding. I agree with you that when you bid many times you are actually bidding against yourself. I always set a timer and punch in my max bid when there is only about 10 seconds left on the auction. Its fun sneaking up on people like that! :)

I always set a timer and punch in my max bid when there is only about 10 seconds left on the auction. Its fun sneaking up on people like that! :) What you are describing is (in eBay terms) called "sniping" and you don't need to tie yourself down to being at a PC to manually do it. There are online services that can automatically "snipe" for you. You simply sign up, put in the item # and top amount you are willing to bid and the system does the rest. Most will even alert you via email if the bidding prior to auction end goes above your maximum (so you can decide whether to raise your max). Beyond the fact they'll snipe that auction you desperately want to win that happens to end at 1:30am, the systems can put in a bid less than 10 seconds before auction end, so they always beat "live" snipers. Here's my favorite. Has always worked, never missed a single bid: http://www.bidnip.com

modelman Posted August 18, 2008 #250 Share Posted August 18, 2008 CM models makes a 1:1250 scale model of the Rotterdam V. The model is available here http://www.collectableships.com/models/CM.htm Now there is a model of her by Montego Products that was made in the 80's that might once in a while come up on ebay. It is larger, maybe 1:900 scale, made of resin and has the blue hull she had more recently, though now the real ship is back to the grey hull as she is renovated in Rotterdam for use as a hotel ship.
