Honey Stung Chicken Recipe?

Recommended Posts

Not exactly the same as this product is breast tenders and the regular honey stung is the fillet breast portion. I've never tried the tenders but the taste may be about the same as most of the different flavors are in the breading.

Here is a Ken Hom recipe that sounds close. Definitely too much work for me.

---------- Recipe via Meal-Master v8.02

Title: Honey Chicken

Categories: Chinese, Chicken

Yield: 4 servings

--------------------------BATTER--------------------------

4 tb Cornstarch

1/4 c Flour

1 ts Baking powder

1/2 c Water

1/2 ts Salt

1 Egg

1 Egg white

2 tb Salt

1 1/2 lb Boneless chicken breasts

- cut in thin strips

2 c Peanut oil, for deep-frying

---------------------------SAUCE---------------------------

1 1/2 tb Peanut oil

2 ts Chopped ginger

3 tb Finely sliced garlic

1 ts Salt

3 tb Sugar

1 ts White rice vinegar

1/2 c Water

1 ts Cornstarch, mixed with

1 ts Water

MIX THE BATTER INGREDIENTS together in a medium-sized

bowl; it should be thick and smooth. Allow the batter

to sit, covered for at least 30 minutes. Combine the

chicken with the batter. Heat a wok or large deep

skillet until it is hot and add the oil for frying.

When the oil is barely smoking, deep-fry the chicken

for 2 minutes or until the batter is just firm. You

should do this in several batches. Remove the chicken

with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

TO MAKE SAUCE: Heat a small saucepan; when it is hot,

add the oil, ginger and garlic, and stir for 30

seconds. Then add the rest of the sauce ingredients

and simmer for 2 minutes. Keep warm. Reheat the oil in

the wok until it is very hot, but not smoking.

Deep-fry the chicken again until it is golden and

crisp, about 1 minute. Remove and drain, place on a

warm platter, drizzle with the sauce and serve

immediately.

I got the same information today from one of the folks I worked with when I was at Tyson. He told me today that Honey Stung is only being sold to institutional and food service customers and they no longer are selling it at retail. He didn't know why other than it is one of Tyson's best selling products in their food service line. If you have access to a Sysco supplier in your area, some of them have retail stores and you probably could purchase it there. If so, it would be in bulk boxes (20 lbs. or so)

I enjoyed Honey Stung chicken everyday from the room service menu while on board "Adventure of the Seas". They bring it to our room each time with Sweet Potato fries. Just got back from the cruise..and I keep craving that chicken. :D

Room service on Navigator offered it also. Tried it.

OK, but just checked the product info sheet....1,050 mg of

Sodium per 5.4 oz serving of boneless breast.

Most people don't care but it is not a low sodium item...

but most processed foods are high sodium....FYI.

:D:eek:

Before our last cruise, I had read on this board how many people loved this chicken. I couldn't recall trying it on previous cruises and I was excited about trying it. As many have said, it was in the WJ on embarkation day. IMO, it was okay but tasted like typical fried chicken tenders with a touch of sweetness. I wouldn't go out of my way to seek it out again.

Honey stung chicken was available from room service on the Serenade too. Unfortunately, it seems to have replaced the chicken drummettes.
