Just back from the Galaxy 10 Day S. Carib..

We also just got off the Galaxy Jan 14/08 had an amazing time with the whole family(11 of us) They did not want to come home their favorite islands were Barbados & Aruba probably because it was also the best for snorkeling.

The kids ages ranged from 5 to 11. Yes, some furniture was a little worn but the staff more than made up for it. Overall the ship was very clean. The shower was very hot to warm but could be worse, could be cold!!!

The Galaxy is going into dry dock in April for approx 30days. The entertainment production shows are all new & great. The rest of the entertainment would depend on what age group your were, but it was ok.

 

A good time was had by all:)

After much reading on the CC board in recent weeks, I finally decided to register/contribute after getting so many useful hints for my latest cruise.

 

We stayed at the Comfort Inn before the Cruise as well and had a similar experience to the OP. We were also on COSOL's tour and also thought it was great. I plan on posting more details about our Galaxy experience and tours over the next few days as I have time.

Where did you snorkle in Barbados & Aruba? Ship excursions, private or from the beach? Which evening shows do you recommend for couples ages 50 & 70? I know it is a matter of what you might like, but just want your opinions. With no kids along :) sometimes we'd rather go to the casino or listen to music in the lounges. Thanks again.

Was the tpool operating throughout your cruise?

While I didn't use the tpool, it appeared to be working every time I was at the gym. I believe it was $20/day $99/trip.

Do they still have a foo-foo drink special in the evening?

As I recall smoking is allowed on the port side of the ship except in the theater, Orion and Oasis where it is no smoking at all times.

We took the ships "Sail and Snorkel" tour in Aruba. It was about 4 hours - 2 snorkel stops - not real sailing - motoring with sails up - overall an excellent tour and would do it again. In Curacao we walked to a hotel that was less than a 1/4 from the pier and did snorkeling off the beach - they did not charge people off the ship. As for the shows my DW and I are 59 and those traveling with us were in their mid 60's and we enjoyed all the shows. They also offered movies every night.

We got off Galaxy on Jan. 4th. It was a wonderful 13 night cruise.

To answer your questions...Yes there are both penny and nickel slot machines as well as multi denomination machines !.2.3.and 5 cent. They also have slots up to $5.00. Please see if you can find some of the money I lost. LOL

Yes. foo foo drinks are still available.

iflyrc5 - Anxiously awaiting your review. You said your documentation showed boarding was at 7:00 p.m., but that you were able to get on much earlier in the afternoon. Did you eat at your regular seating time in the dining room or did they just have informal dining in the buffet area for the first night?

On boarding we were given a card that said we were to go for the early dinning in the Orion at 6pm. I assume that folks that arrived later got a card that listed the later dinning time. We were part of a group of 6 and we all went together at 6pm and they seated us at a table for 6. They didn't ask for the card so my guess is that you could have gone at either early or late. Dress was very informal - many wearing jeans - don't recall seeing shorts but I am sure there was some. It was very easy and quick.

I assume the second seating is at 8:30 and the sail away is at 10pm so it would be close. I think you can go to the Oasis at any time in the evening if you want to eat a little earlier with the same menu.

Thanks for the pictures. The ship looks good. I haven't been there since 2002 and part of the windows in the lounge were not in best shape then, but it certainly didn't ruin a great vacation.

We leave on the Jan 25th sailing on the Galaxy, we have a deluxe ocean on the Vista deck which I think was the same deck your cabin was on...pleased to see what the cabins look like for this category. :)

 

The ship looks quite good in the pictures minus the windows in the Stratosphere lounge but I doubt we would spend much time up there anyway.

 

What was the age group like? everyone keeps telling me, the longer the cruise, the greater the age of the passengers??

Thanks for the link to the photos! After reading some of the comments from some on other threads, I expected to see a ship in vitual tatters. Not so!:)
