aloveforwander Posted February 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2008 This is the latest aerobics/dancing craze - and am loving it! Wonder if I can burn off the calories doing my "dance" while on my next cruise too. :p Has anyone seen it on the class schedule?
Bargeo Posted February 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2008 I witnessed a Zumba class on the pool deck of my recent Empress of the Seas cruise. I love Zumba also, although I wasn't motivated to get up and join them. Lazy sea day..........LOL.

Rare xpcdoojk Posted February 4, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2008 MY DW is a certified Zumba instructor, and outside of her practicing her stuff in the Dungeon on the Navigator in November there wasn't any Zumba on board.
alwayshappytocruise Posted February 4, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2008 Love to Zumba too!! So far, not available on Mariner, Sovereign or Celebrity Infinity. Maybe if enough of us request it they will add it to the fitness classes.....and if they do, please don't LOL at some of my moves!!
JanineM Posted February 5, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2008 Haven't seen Zumba on Mariner or Sovereign. But then, the Macarena is still something NEW for a lot of pax onboard!!!

KAPhotography Posted February 5, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Royal Caribbean is now training crew members to be zumba certified. Zumba certification literally takes a couple hours and you pay a couple hundred dollars and voila your certified. The experience I had on board at a zumba class last week was awful. They need to bring on guest instructors that teach zumba on a regular basis and that are widely known for their talent. They need to learn from Celebrity Cruiselines. I went to the zumba class on that ship and the instructor was phenomenal. Her choreography was more fun and also gave me a better workout.
Langley Cruisers Posted February 5, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Wow, nice bump. :p Well I'm sure it's like everything in exercise - instructors are different and not always a good "fit". *shrug*
MomtoCCC Posted February 5, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 5, 2013 I asked about Zumba on Freedom of the Seas last week and they did not have it. They did have a cardio box class that I would have done but the timing didn't work out for me.
bgetter Posted February 5, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 5, 2013 There was zumba on our recent Mariner cruise, but my wife said it was not very good at all. I don't know what that means exactly. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
39august Posted February 5, 2013 #13 Share Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) Indy offered zumba classes nearly every day last week for no charge. Edited February 5, 2013 by 39august
trtllovr Posted February 5, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 5, 2013 I'm an instructor and was lucky enough to be able to teach classes last week on the Indy. I do not work for them and just did it for fun. I had to jump through hoops to get my class in the compass but it was successful and had good numbers. They also had a licensed employee that taught in the afternoon 2 days per week (I taught 4 mornings). The review I got on the onboard Zumba instructor was not fabulous but I never saw her in action so I cannot say. I would love to do more cruising Zumba classes but money does not allow. If you know an instructor ask if they can go with you, seriously!
JMG Posted February 5, 2013 #15 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Royal Caribbean is now training crew members to be zumba certified. I went to the zumba class on that ship and the instructor was phenomenal. Her choreography was more fun and also gave me a better workout. Zumba Instructors are licensed and must attend an 8 hour workshop. They are highly encouraged to a fitness certification to enhance their knowledge. The problem that I see with having an "inhouse" instructor is that they cannot do the training on a turnaround day and get back to the ship on time for sailing. That assumes that there would even be a training on a day when they were in port. Also, it takes lots of time to keep a playlist current and crew just have many other obligations so they might not have that time to put into their programming....hence, the bad reviews. Celebrity advertised for instructors on private facebook pages and did attract a few instructors to teach one or two weeks. If the instructor has good attendance at their home class...they would not want to give that up for a long contract on a ship. As noted, try to find an instructor and see if the class would be interested in taking a cruise. That way you can probably get group rates and have a nice size class before you even board. Not to mention all the fun of the actual cruise.
MermaidWatcher Posted February 6, 2013 #16 Share Posted February 6, 2013 My wife attended Zumba during our January 2013 Independence of the Seas sailing. Don't kow about other ships. Do remember her not liking some of the times though; like very early mornings on sea days, or 1/2 hr. before first seating in MDR.

Bobal Posted August 4, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) There are no Zumba classes on RC ships other than the occasional class which is called 'Zumba' and taken by a member of the activities team, but it's not a proper Zumba class. They do not have qualified Zumba teachers or include it as part of their gym class program. Celebrity used to run some excellent free Zumba classes but as soon as they got popular they started charging for them, not sure if they are still around. And incidentally this thread has been resurrected by someone advertising against the CC board rules, having already had a thread taken down for doing the same. Hopefully this thread will go the same way. Edited August 4, 2016 by Bobal
KristyM79 Posted August 5, 2016 #19 Share Posted August 5, 2016 There are Zumba classes on sea days on the oasis. As someone who does Zumba at least twice a week, this class was unimpressive. More like mild dance aerobics and fairly easy. You'll be sweating more from the fact that you're outside.
YlangYlangF9PB3E Posted August 6, 2016 #20 Share Posted August 6, 2016 We had a daily Zumba class on our May '16 transatlantic on Navigator. Elise, our wonderful Aussie activity director lead the classes. She was terrific. Such a great way to start each day in the middle of the ocean!!! Pearlieq Posted August 6, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 6, 2016 There was really good Zumba on the Vision over Thanksgiving last year, run by a gentleman who may have been an assistant cruise director? I've never seen it on the biggest ships.
