Thanks LaPaloma for the advice.

I am excited and nervous at once. Legend looks fantastic, I just hope it will live up to our expectations. We have resisted cruising for years in favour of land based travels. I think we have to adjust our expectations and understand that it will be a different experience. My MAIN worry is that when I travel I like to IMMERSE myself into the local culture (OK, somewhat immerse, nice hotels, certain buffers for sure), but generally speaking when I visit a country I like to soak it up and I'm afraid that with a cruise it won't be that way. Let's face it, everyone will be speaking english at dinner, I kind of like to hear families and couples speaking the local dialect. but the tradeoff is to be on the water, I've never done that before, so that will be very special. Pluses and minuses right?

Where are you going on your cruise?

You will find far more pluses! One of them, hitting the ports..you get to get a taste of more places. I have found that you get lots of local color and of course their languages. As for English at dinner, you will find people from all over the world..and most speak English..yes..but of course they would love it if you are able to communicate in their language. The staff and crew are also from around the world..it is a marvelous mix. You will find the food adventuresome..and very good. Be prepared to be spoiled for other travel. It is so nice to be waited on...to have everything prepaid and you don't have to keep dipping into your wallet. I hope that you will report back following your cruise..it is always great to hear your reactions. Most are over the top positive. Lola [my husband Don and I share the La Paloma tag..his was the previous post.] ;)

Especially when you factor in the Seabourn cruise..

>"The Mediterranean diet may be healthier than the typical Western diet, but it's more expensive, too, a Spanish study found.

Spaniards who ate greater proportions of olive oil, fish, and vegetables spent nearly a dollar more per 1,000 kcal of energy than those who consumed more red meat, processed meat, and dairy foods, according to Maira Bes-Rastrollo, PhD, of the University of Navarra, and colleagues.

"Our results are consistent with previous studies that have shown low-energy-density diets, specifically of the Mediterranean dietary pattern, are associated with higher costs of daily food consumption," the researchers wrote online in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Action Points

Explain that a Spanish study found those who followed a Mediterranean diet spent nearly a dollar more per 1,000 kcal of energy on their diets than those who consumed a more Western diet.

They noted that the cost of food influences diet, which may be a challenge to promoting the benefits of a Mediterranean diet and enacting policies that encourage it."

I just saw this today on Capt. G-A's website. Apparently, Mr. Oss' birthday was June 12.

(The photo following has Maciej & Anthony, whose birthday must be the same.)

Just FYI...(!)

Paul ;)

Anthony just had a birthday a few days ago...

Did you also notice how quiet this board is at the moment?

I guess a lot of our regular posters are either cruising or preparing to go on their cruise.....

Some news for those of you who are interested:

Captain Tom Thomassen and his lovely wife Heidi are the proud parents now of baby girl "ALMA"! They are all doing well and the baby is like a princess (how could she not ..... with a father and mother like that;)!

Yes, it seems awfully quiet! Of course, "we're" preparing, too!

Maybe "they" will miss us when we're gone! :D ;)

 I feel like I'm the only one not sailing on Seabourn this week. It's like no one is home on this thread, everyone is being spoiled aboard a Seabourn Yacht. As I will be in March! Hope everyone is having fun.

A lot of folks take a crossing as this is the cheapest way to be on a Seabourn ship.

Less expensive? Maybe... The MOST fun? YES!! (there are folks that would never fare several sea days in a row, no matter what the discount).

Perhaps it might be more accurate to say that it's less-per-day...than other itineraries...(certainly as a solo cruiser)!

Paul ;)

Who loves being one of those sea-day folks!

I have been on many Seabourn cruises, including crossings, cruises of 7 days and much longer, and can honestly say that many of my very best life-long friends have been the result of the crossings. What other type cruise can you bond with 200 other fellow passengers over several sea days? I agree, its also less per diem. (It used to be ALOT less until the word got out!!)

Excuse me.... !

We don't have to excuse our selves to like a crossing!

I know the "LORD" is joking and just envious, but Paul and Dan, yes, you are so right. How can you get to know somebody better than on a crossing if you are open for it. Not on a port incentive one week Med cruise I guess (unless you spend the whole night in the Club or casino at night;)).

And yes, we can only afford these crossings - and the business class one ways, the expensive hotels, staying there several days...

I know Lord, but if this is the answer you were looking for, so be it! I still hope to be on my crossing next week (fingers and toers crossed...).

And on an other very cheap cruise in January!
