That is very interesting, but what does "through Oct 2" and "through Oct 10" mean? Does it mean ON those dates, FROM those dates or UNTIL those dates.? I know the term is in common use in the USA but it is ambiguous to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Host Dan Posted September 11, 2010 Author #455 Share Posted September 11, 2010 THROUGH OCT 2 means Until 2 Oct. No, it reads every saturday night until midnight THROUGH October 2nd. October 2nd is a Saturday, so it ends at midnight on October 2nd. Not UNTIL. Host Dan

If I read Sept 1 thru Sept 30, i understand that to be FROM Sept 1 UNTIL Sept
wingit Posted September 11, 2010 #458 Share Posted September 11, 2010 THROUGH OCT 2 means Until 2 Oct. Until 2 Oct. means "up to but not including" 2 Oct. Through Oct 2 means "all the way to end of Oct 2. That's how my dictionary defines those two words anyway. Until and through are not synonymous. Interesting little exercise though:)

JaneBP Posted October 3, 2010 #471 Share Posted October 3, 2010 Is 'Seabourn' singular or plural? I think because it is 'Seabourn Cruise Line' it is singular. This issue seems to be divided in the Forum usage. Where is William Safire (RIP) when we need him?
OrpingtonT Posted October 3, 2010 #472 Share Posted October 3, 2010 I think the official title is "The Yachts of Seabourn". Make of that what you will. Seabourn itself is, of course, singular.
oceandream Posted October 3, 2010 #473 Share Posted October 3, 2010 I would also consider: Chez Queux 158 St-Paul Filles du roy 405 Bonsecours St-Gabriel 426 st-Gabriel Any other info on city, please ask: I now. I live here. Bienvenue !

"The police are coming" sounds better than " the police is coming" (and will they ever get here?)
