Sox Fan Cruiser Posted June 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2008 We are sailing on the CB in about a week. Since I am with my family (12 of us) this time we chose traditional dinning, early seating (some younger kids). We usually have anytime dinning. I was so excited about having the seafood buffet (again) but didn't realize it starts until 6 which is the same time as our dinner. I want my family to experience the wonderful seafood but want to go to dinner the first night to set up the relationship with our waiter. Could I swing by Cafe Caribe and grab some lobster claws and crab legs and bring them into the dinning room as an "appetizer". I was going to talk to the head waiter when we first get on the ship and get his thoughts but where else can I get the opinion of hundreds of people than on CC. :D I am hoping that if we talk to the head waiter, he will set it up so that there are some waiting for us on the table already. ;) Thoughts? Toto2Kansas Posted June 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2008 Wellllllllllllllllll. I don't think I would carry food from the buffet into the diningroom, especially on the first night. If you are that concerned about the realtionship with your waiter, I don't think this would put your best foot forward when you first meet. IMHO of coarse. Rude? Well, let me say I feel it is a bit questionable.
Travelrd Posted June 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2008 Could you go to the buffet after dinner and put the lobster and crab in the refrigerator?
SharkieRools Posted June 11, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2008 Have them as dessert after you're done in the dining room! :D

Sea Hag Posted June 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2008 I'm with the folks who say go after dinner. That sounds more reasonable to me.

GoneCruzin' Posted June 11, 2008 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2008 We've swung by the buffet after early seating and there's plenty of seafood left over. I don't think it would be a good way to start in the dining room.
California Native Posted June 11, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2008 It's not rude... but it would appear to possibly, unintentionally, show a lack of class.. I would swing by afterwards. .you could even ask if there's anyway they might have access to bring you some in the dining room!
paul929207 Posted June 11, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 11, 2008 I would think bringing food to the dining room is not a good idea.
nho9504 Posted June 11, 2008 #11 Share Posted June 11, 2008 You would be viewed as oddball if you do that. You can go up to the buffet AFTER you have had your dinner. We do that very often - usually is DH wanting to have some additional veggie but we do not mind to sit down and have another plate of spicy sautee shrimp! CB has an open kitchen that often churns out this delicious dish at the Caribe Cafe on non-seafood nights. Also, I feel it is kind of messy to eat the shellfishes at the dining room - it is better done at Caribe with hands, imo. We are sailing on the CB in about a week. bermuda09 Posted June 11, 2008 #12 Share Posted June 11, 2008 I wouldn't recommend bringing the food in; in fact, I am not sure if its allowed. However, my fiance felt the same way about this; so we ate dinner at 6, and at 10 he went to the buffet. There was a lot of food left.
Pia1913 Posted June 12, 2008 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2008 Or.......since getting into the diningroom is congested on the first night (they check your card, escort you, etc.), your party can get in line, you can go to the buffet and crab your seafood, bring it back to your cabin refrigerator and quick like a bunny run back to the diningroom to join your party. Worse case scenario is that they get seated before you get back, which should be no more than a few minutes. WHEW!
NeurosurgeryNP Posted June 12, 2008 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2008 I am with the rest - go for a seafood "dessert" after the dinner has settled.

Times Prince Posted June 12, 2008 #16 Share Posted June 12, 2008 Consider the fact they have been really health/sanitation conscious about the dining areas. I think the crab wouldn't taste that good after putting the alcohol sanitizer on it  . I really don't think they would allow food to be brought in, but I know we had a tablemate on the Emerald Princess who got them to bring some crab from the kitchen - for dessert ! It did take the assistant waiter away for a long while. So in creating that relationship, ask the waiter what can be done...
Lynda90 Posted June 12, 2008 #17 Share Posted June 12, 2008 Just eat lightly in dining room and go to buffet afterwards. I'm not even sure they would allow you to bring food into the dining room. Might be a sanitation problem as already mentioned.

Putterdude Posted June 12, 2008 #19 Share Posted June 12, 2008 I couldn't eat two dinners so if the seafood was my priority I think I would just go and explain what I was doing to our waiter....he will understand and appreciate what you are doing. ancldaca Posted June 12, 2008 #23 Share Posted June 12, 2008 On my previous sailings on the CB, the first night's dinner wasn't that well attended in the first place. Noone will miss you if as a group if you all go to the buffet instead. I too make it a point to skip one night at traditional when they have the German food set-up...
