HELP I need to rent a wheelchair in Miami

Does anyone know how I would go about renting a wheelchair for a cruise this coming Saturday Aug 23? RC Special Needs has not returned my email (I will call them tomorrow) and a place I found on-line isn't sure, and won't know until Tuesday.

We rented travel wheelchairs for DW's parents at a local pharmacy for $40 for 30 days. They are lighter than the traditional wheelchair and easier to push. If you need a wheelchair for the cruise you probably need one for the airport.

When were were in the caribbean on the Grandeur of the Seas and wife got so sunburned on her feet and got hives as well, she could not walk. They loaned us a wheelchair fron the ship for the duration of the cruise, no charge. Was told they had plenty for such emergencies. Told to just leave folded up in hallway outside roon when not in use.

Wheelchairs can be rented through Care Vacations.... http://www.cruiseshipassist.com/

They work with the cruiselines , are very reputable, and have a tollfree number.

I agree with above poster. My mother has used this company for the past 3 years renting a wheelchair on a cruise.

It is SO EASY!!! The chair is in your cabin waiting for you and you leave it in your cabin the day you leave.......easy!!!

I would rent one either before you leave home or from Care Vacations who deliver it to the ship for 2 reasons: they will ensure it is the correct size and because I do not trust RCCL to honor a comittment.

Several years ago RCCL promised me the use of a manual chair for ports (my husband had a power chair for on board), but could not provide one because the passengers coming aboard kept the wheelchairs.

After a lot of argument, I was promised that they would email ahead and have one waiting in each port. It took 4 hours after arrival to get a broken one in Cozumel. We did not get one in Curacao, etc. The only port where one was waiting was Aruba, but that probably was because we arrived 5 hours late.

When I wrote RCCL to complain, I was told that it is not their responsibility to provide wheelchairs even though they had promised to provide one.

One more suggestion. If you do get one through RCCL, get it in writing (or email) because the communication between headquarters and the ships can be awful and you may have to provide proof.
